Scott Surplice photographs weddings the way they actually unfold, from a studio at Caringbah in the Sutherland Shire and across the whole of Sydney. Sixteen years and more than 750 weddings sit behind the work, and the promise attached to it is a quiet one: no stiff poses, no interruptions and no awkward direction, just the day happening with someone in the background making sure none of it gets missed.
Style & Approach
The style is natural, documentary and relaxed, shot on digital with film available alongside it. Heavy posing is deliberately absent, which is what lets couples who expect to feel awkward settle into the day instead. As he puts it, the best wedding photos are made the moment you forget there is a camera there — earned through humour and patience rather than by hiding.
