About

Overview & Vibe

Thrive Flowers & Events has been designing wedding flowers in Melbourne since 2005, when Alyssa Goodall started out working from home and specialising in bridal work. The studio moved into Collingwood in 2012 and added a second warehouse at Moorabbin ten years later, and the team now brings together floral designers, event decorators, planners and stylists under one roof. A dedicated client liaison stays with you from the first enquiry through to the late-night pack-down. The Collingwood studio doubles as the studio’s own event space, Beneath The Ferns, which is where wedding consultations are held.

Style & Signature Blooms

The work is seasonal, foam-free and unafraid of scale: freestanding hoops and arbours, ground-set meadow florals, long low table runners and suspended aerial designs built on custom structures made in-house. Palettes run from cream roses and phalaenopsis in a footed urn to bright dahlia, ranunculus and wattle on a reception table. Dried flowers appear in the installations as well as the shop, and the florists name cymbidium orchids, Queen Anne’s lace, hellebores, dahlias and Jonquil Erlicheer among their own favourites.

Ideal For

Couples marrying anywhere across Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, the Yarra Valley, the Dandenong Ranges, Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges, or Geelong and the Great Ocean Road. Equally suited to a micro wedding and to a full-room installation - there is no minimum spend, and the studio removed the one it used to hold so that smaller weddings could be taken on. Couples who care where their flowers come from will find more published detail here than almost anywhere.

The Need-to-Knows

Start with the wedding enquiry form, then book a consultation in person, by phone or over Google Meet. Consultations before booking are $50 an hour, credited back against your flowers once you book. A 25 per cent non-refundable deposit secures the date - tentative holds are not accepted - with the balance due two weeks out. Quotes hold for a month and are quoted exclusive of GST. Vases, backdrops, arbours and arches are available for hire, priced within your quote, with a refundable bond if you return them yourself.

Standout Feature

This is the most thoroughly documented environmental practice of any florist in this directory. Thrive is a carbon-neutral company, Alyssa is a member of the Sustainable Floristry Network, floral foam has been eradicated entirely, and waste is separated into eight streams with 90 per cent diverted from landfill. In the last year that meant the equivalent of 18,690 plastic bags avoided through foam alternatives, 39 kilograms of cardboard sent to specialist recycling and 23,595 litres of green waste composted. The same curriculum is taught to the next generation at the studio’s own flower school.

Appointment Policy

  • Start with the wedding enquiry form so a proposal can be drafted before you meet.
  • Consultations can be held in person, by phone or over Google Meet, and a date and time is chosen from an online booking calendar.
  • In-person consultations at Collingwood are held in the studio's own event space; Moorabbin consultations happen at the warehouse where the flowers and glassware are kept.
  • An in-person meeting is not required - the team says some couples are never met until the wedding day.
  • Consultations before booking are charged at $50 an hour, and that charge is credited back against your flowers once you book.
  • Once booked, site visits and further meetings in person, by email or by phone are included.
  • Flower samples can be provided on request.
  • Booking is confirmed only when the deposit is paid - tentative holds are not accepted.
  • Email enquiries are answered within 24 hours.
  • The Collingwood studio is open by appointment only; the Moorabbin warehouse handles click and collect.

Price Notes

  • There is no minimum spend at present. The studio previously set a $2,000 floor and has withdrawn it so that micro and smaller weddings can be taken on.
  • A pricing guide is sent on request rather than published, so ask for it when you enquire.
  • A quote holds for one month.
  • Line-item prices are quoted exclusive of GST, in Australian dollars.
  • A 25 per cent non-refundable deposit secures the date, with a $200 minimum on bookings under $2,000.
  • The balance falls due two weeks before the wedding, and flowers are not ordered until it is paid.
  • Late payment can attract a further 10 per cent on the balance.
  • Paying by credit card adds a 3 per cent processing fee.
  • Consultations before booking cost $50 an hour and are credited back against your flowers once you book.
  • Changes to an order need at least two weeks' notice, and nothing can be removed within one month of the date.
  • Cutting an order back sharply once installation is contracted can attract a surcharge of 20 per cent of the value removed, which can instead be redirected to other items.
  • Cancelling keeps the 25 per cent deposit with the studio; postponement is encouraged and a booking can be moved with one month's notice to a date within twelve months.
  • Cancelling within two weeks of the date leaves the full amount payable.
  • Hired items not returned within a week of the wedding are charged at their full purchase price.
