About

Overview & Vibe

Matt has photographed weddings across Melbourne and the Yarra Valley since 2014 — more than three hundred of them. He is a Yarra Valley local, a dad of two, and by his own account will quote Back to the Future at you given half a chance. One wedding a day, always him behind the camera, and he replies to every enquiry himself.

Style & Approach

Candid, warm and natural. He documents the day as it happens and steps in with direction only where it helps — his own summary is that he is easy to work with, hard to spot on the day, and will not make you do anything that feels weird. Every frame is hand-finished rather than run through a preset, and you get the whole set in colour and in black and white.

Ideal For

Couples marrying anywhere between the city and the ranges. His published weddings run through Montsalvat, Lightning Hill Estate, Trofeo Estate, Cloudehill Gardens, Warrawong Estate, Chateau Wyuna, Poet’s Lane and a good deal of the Yarra Valley besides. Also worth a look if the portrait session is the part you are dreading — he builds the day around getting you through it quickly.

The Need-to-Knows

Collections run $1,999, $2,999 and $4,299, with an elopement at $1,500 and a photo-and-film option at $6,499. He does not sell hours. The difference between collections is how much of the day he is there for, so there is no overtime and no clock watching. A $500 non-refundable deposit holds the date, and the full gallery lands around eight to twelve weeks later.

Standout Feature

He shoots to two memory cards at once, so every frame exists in two places from the moment it is taken, and he carries backup bodies, lenses and cards to every wedding. If illness or an accident ever stopped him being there, he has a network of professionals who would step in. It is the least romantic thing on his site and possibly the most reassuring.

Albums & Prints

  • Fine-Art Album, Ten Inches Square, Ten Spreads. Price: Included in the $4,299 collection. Description: The only album published, and it is not sold separately.

  • A coffee or a call comes first, before anything is locked in.
  • He takes one wedding a day, so a date can only be held informally for a few days.
