Starcut Flowers has traded in Mackay for 35 years and runs three shops — on the Peak Downs Highway at Ooralea, inside the Mater Hospital in North Mackay, and at Fourways on Nebo Road. For weddings they describe themselves as “the one stop shop”, and they mean it literally: the flowers and the furniture come from the same place.

Style & Signature Blooms

Four named bouquet styles, each with its own flower list. The native package runs to protea, banksia, red spider orchid, sea holly, amaranthus, gum nuts and leucadendron with wild foliage; the preserved and couture package to phalaenopsis, Colombian roses, disbuds, dahlias and preserved fillers; the soft ones to roses, lisianthus, disbuds and carnations. Their own photographs run from coastal urn arrangements against the Coral Sea to a draped, fairy-lit reception hall.

Ideal For

A couple who would rather book the whole ceremony from one supplier. The ceremony packages include the chairs — thirty of them — along with the arch, the welcome sign spray, the easel, the rug and thirty paper cones of petals. Beyond the packages they list backdrops, high bars and stools, tables, cloths, napkins, glassware, ceiling drapes, chill-out couches, neon signs and outdoor umbrellas.

The Need-to-Knows

Every package price carries the same caveat, written four times over: “prices can change as flower costs change week to week.” Bouquet packages sit at $1,000, ceremony packages run from $1,500 to $3,500, and delivery and pick-up of the ceremony hire is extra on top. Bouquets arrive boxed with water packs. The shops are closed Sunday but they deliver seven days.

Standout Feature

A free throw-away bouquet is in every single bouquet package. It is a small thing, and it is the kind of small thing that tells you a florist has been doing weddings for a long time — nobody wants to throw the bouquet they are keeping. Thirty-five years in one town shows up in details like that.

Appointment Policy

Wedding quotes and availability are handled by email, after looking through the published samples.
The Ooralea shop trades 8am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturday.
The Mater Hospital shop trades 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm Saturday.
All three shops are closed Sunday, and generally closed on public holidays.

Delivery & Setup

Ceremony packages are quoted with delivery and pick-up charged on top.
Bouquets are handed over boxed with water packs on the stems.
Same-day delivery needs an order before 2pm Monday to Friday, or before 10am on Saturday.
They are closed Sunday and public holidays but can still deliver on Sundays.
A local delivery fee is added for each address.
Post office boxes and locked bags are not delivered to, and rural routes and cemeteries cannot be guaranteed.
Some remote deliveries may have to be collected from the nearest depot, and the recipient is told if so.
