Hickling Photography is Kurtis and Charlyne, a husband-and-wife team who have lived in the small town of Chiltern since 2002 and photograph weddings across north east Victoria. They shoot together, and the pictures show it — one of them watching the light while the other watches the room. Wisteria arches, winery barrel rooms, river gums, orchard rows and the granite country around the Ovens and Murray turn up again and again.
Style & Approach
In their words, a wedding is a narrative, and the job is to tell the couple’s love story through the lens — not only the vows and the first kiss but the subtle, candid moments that are natural and show who people really are. They work outdoors by preference and use the landscape as the backdrop, so expect paddocks, water and big weather rather than a studio wall.

Couples marrying around Chiltern, Rutherglen, Beechworth, Yackandandah and Wangaratta who want two photographers without a metropolitan price. Their own reason for pricing the way they do is that when their children were small they could not afford professional pictures themselves, and they would rather nobody else missed out.

Standout Feature
They are woven into their own town. Kurtis was named Chiltern Citizen of the Year in 2014 and Indigo Shire Citizen of the Year in 2016, they serve with the CFA brigade, and they are the preferred photographers for local annual events including MoRide and Australia Day. He also runs location workshops teaching people to use their own cameras.
