Wedding Florists · Melbourne, Victoria
Thrive Flowers & Events has been designing wedding flowers in Melbourne since 2005, when Alyssa Goodall started out working from home and specialising in bridal work. The studio moved into Collingwood in 2012 and added a second warehouse at Moorabbin ten years later, and the team now brings together floral designers, event decorators, planners and stylists under one roof. A dedicated client liaison stays with you from the first enquiry through to the late-night pack-down. The Collingwood studio doubles as the studio’s own event space, Beneath The Ferns, which is where wedding consultations are held.
The work is seasonal, foam-free and unafraid of scale: freestanding hoops and arbours, ground-set meadow florals, long low table runners and suspended aerial designs built on custom structures made in-house. Palettes run from cream roses and phalaenopsis in a footed urn to bright dahlia, ranunculus and wattle on a reception table. Dried flowers appear in the installations as well as the shop, and the florists name cymbidium orchids, Queen Anne’s lace, hellebores, dahlias and Jonquil Erlicheer among their own favourites.
Couples marrying anywhere across Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, the Yarra Valley, the Dandenong Ranges, Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges, or Geelong and the Great Ocean Road. Equally suited to a micro wedding and to a full-room installation - there is no minimum spend, and the studio removed the one it used to hold so that smaller weddings could be taken on. Couples who care where their flowers come from will find more published detail here than almost anywhere.
Start with the wedding enquiry form, then book a consultation in person, by phone or over Google Meet. Consultations before booking are $50 an hour, credited back against your flowers once you book. A 25 per cent non-refundable deposit secures the date - tentative holds are not accepted - with the balance due two weeks out. Quotes hold for a month and are quoted exclusive of GST. Vases, backdrops, arbours and arches are available for hire, priced within your quote, with a refundable bond if you return them yourself.
This is the most thoroughly documented environmental practice of any florist in this directory. Thrive is a carbon-neutral company, Alyssa is a member of the Sustainable Floristry Network, floral foam has been eradicated entirely, and waste is separated into eight streams with 90 per cent diverted from landfill. In the last year that meant the equivalent of 18,690 plastic bags avoided through foam alternatives, 39 kilograms of cardboard sent to specialist recycling and 23,595 litres of green waste composted. The same curriculum is taught to the next generation at the studio’s own flower school.
