Shepparton sits at the meeting of the Goulburn and Broken rivers, the centre of the Goulburn Valley and its orchards, dairy farms and vineyards. Couples marry among the riverside gums at Victoria Park Lake, in the district’s fruit-growing country, and in the restored civic and heritage buildings along the main street.
It is a little over two hours north of Melbourne on the Goulburn Valley Highway, which makes it a genuine regional base rather than a day trip — guests stay, and the surrounding wineries and the Murray a short drive further north extend the weekend. The city is also the retail centre for a wide catchment, so brides across the Goulburn Valley shop for gowns, suits and flowers here.
