Nathan Sixsmith is a wedding photographer working out of Bunbury, and he has been at it for more than a decade — over five hundred weddings across the South West, Perth and the coast between them. Days run from a two-hour weekday elopement to twelve hours that start with the groom getting ready and finish when the reception does. He keeps an eye on the running order as well as the camera, which is the part couples tend to mention afterwards.
He describes his own work as natural, relaxed and real: hanging back when the day is carrying itself, stepping in when someone needs telling where to stand. Formal portraits get guided so they move quickly; the rest is left to happen. The editing leans warm and is meant to age well rather than date to a trend. He shoots digital on three bodies, writes to two cards at once, and puts a drone up where the rules and the property owner allow it.
Couples marrying anywhere between Margaret River and Perth who want one photographer for the whole day and a clear price before they enquire. The two- and three-hour elopement packages suit small ceremonies; the eight-hour is the one most couples take. Same-sex weddings are photographed on the same terms, and he will sign as a witness for an elopement at no charge.
Packages run from $900 for a weekday two-hour elopement to $3,400 for twelve hours. A 50% deposit holds the date and the balance falls due before the images are handed over. Sneak peeks land within 72 hours and the full gallery within two to six weeks, by private online gallery and Google Drive, with a USB on packages of six hours and over. Travel through the South West, Mandurah and Perth south of the river costs nothing extra; north of the river adds $150.
He has been named a top ten wedding photographer in Western Australia four years running, and he throws in the parts most couples do not think to ask for — timeline planning six weeks out, a free planner to share with the celebrant and the venue, and a photo booth that can be bolted onto the package for less than it costs alone.
