Lithgow, New South Wales

Lithgow sits just over the western edge of the Blue Mountains, where the sandstone drops away into the Hartley Valley. Couples marry at the Hartley Historic Site’s convict-era buildings, in the gardens at Mount Wilson, and out towards the Wolgan and Capertee valleys — the second-widest canyon in the world.

It is cold enough for a genuine winter wedding, close enough to Katoomba to share its scenery, and two hours from Sydney. The Zig Zag Railway and the Glow Worm Tunnel are the kind of detail a photographer remembers.
