Rosella Floral Designs is a Sydney wedding and event florist and stylist run by lead designer Anvara, who has been designing for couples and brands for over twelve years. It works from a home studio rather than a shop, and says so plainly: no shopfront overheads, stock bought to order, and the saving passed on. Fresh flower wedding packages start at $600, every item on the price list carries a starting figure, and consultations are by appointment. It was a finalist for Outstanding Florist in the 2017 Sydney Hills Awards.
The house style is romantic, whimsical, elegant and modern. Bouquets run from a tight posy to an oversized organic gather finished with hand-dyed silk ribbons, and the portfolio moves easily between blush garden roses, burgundy dahlias and a full-native build around protea, banksia and gum. A four-season Sydney flower guide sets out what is available when - peonies and David Austin roses in summer, ranunculus and anemone in the cooler months, waratah in spring - and the studio is clear that choosing in-season blooms lowers the bill.
Couples who want to see a number before they enquire. Four named packages cover the bridal party from $600 to $1,800, and around twenty individual items are priced from a $15 buttonhole to a $600 ceremony arch, so a small ceremony and a full reception can both be costed from the same list. It also suits couples marrying outside Sydney - the Hunter Valley, the Central Coast, the Southern Highlands, the Illawarra and the South Coast are all regions it travels to - and anyone who wants one supplier for flowers, styling, hire pieces and the planning as well.
Enquiries go by email, and the studio asks for a lot up front: your date, both names, the delivery suburbs, both venue names, start and finish times, bump-in and bump-out, pictures with quantities, your photographer and your budget. Allow 48 hours for a reply on weekdays and 72 across a weekend, and check your spam folder. Delivery, set-up and pack-down are quoted on your locations and sit outside the package prices, and flowers can be dropped to more than one address on the morning. Travel to the Blue Mountains and the Central Tablelands is paused while the Great Western Highway is closed, so ask about a date there first.
The hire range is measured as well as priced. A silk floral arch is $350 and comes with its height, width and depth; a wooden arch is $200 at 2m by 1.5m; an elevated silk centrepiece is $150 on a 70cm stand; a clear wishing well is $45 at 32cm cubed. For a couple working to a venue’s ceiling height or a hire company’s dimensions, that is the rare listing they can plan against rather than ask about.
