Ashley Oostdyck photographs weddings around Brisbane as Stories by Ash, working alone on most days and describing herself as an extra friend you did not know you had. The tone of the whole site is warm and unfussy: she wants to hear how you met before she talks about packages, and she would rather meet you over a coffee or a glass of wine than send a brochure.
Documentary, and committed to it -- honesty, connection and the in-between moments, with gentle direction when you need it. Her published work is colourful and full of movement: confetti, laughing exits, hands being squeezed. She shoots film alongside digital on some weddings, and tags those weddings as such.
Couples who dread being posed, and who want the day to look like it felt rather than like a shoot. She writes plainly that she photographs LGBTQ+ weddings and her portfolio shows it. Also good for anyone marrying outside Brisbane -- she travels across Australia and overseas.
Coverage starts at $4,000 for five hours, with extra hours at $300. Elopements and mid-week micro weddings are priced separately. A $2,000 booking fee and a signed contract secure the date. You get a sneak peek the week after the wedding and the full high-resolution collection in six to eight weeks, in a password-protected gallery that stays up for a further year.
The albums are a real part of the offer, not an afterthought: covers can be chosen across linen, buckram, leather and vegan leather ranges with foil finishes, and she calls them heirloom quality. For a photographer who works solo, that is an unusual amount of care given to what happens after the gallery link arrives.
