Gabe Veit is a Brisbane wedding photographer who spends most weekends somewhere between Byron Bay and Noosa. He grew up in the rainforest behind Mullumbimby in a family of painters, found photography through an old SLR and a high-school darkroom, and has spent fifteen years since working in Brisbane studios — a decade of commercial and fashion work that he says only sharpened how much he loves weddings.
Natural, fun and honest is how he puts it: wide open landscapes when the setting deserves them, and close to the action for the real, raw moments — the groomsman trying to hide that he is crying, the extra-tight hug from a parent. His editing is deliberately restrained, a subtle colour balance and exposure adjustment aimed at images that look natural and timeless rather than styled.
Couples who want the day documented as it happens rather than worked through a shot list — he is explicit that location time should be a balance of enjoying your first hour married and having fun with your bridal party. Equally at home in a Brisbane warehouse venue or a mountain barn, and openly LGBT-friendly.
Photography packages run 3, 6 or 9 hours and are customisable, from $2,290; videography is from $1,990 either bundled or on its own. A $600 deposit secures the date, with the balance due two weeks before. Expect high-resolution JPEGs through an online gallery in about four to six weeks, usually with a sneak peek within days. There is no travel charge inside the Byron Bay – Brisbane – Noosa – Toowoomba triangle.
Ask and he will bring a film camera alongside the digital bodies — 35mm snaps for the nostalgia and warmth they add, or a full roll if analogue is what you love. He flies a drone too.
