Pete Thornton works from a studio just outside Gawler, in the lower Barossa Valley, and has been photographing South Australian weddings full-time for well over a decade without missing one. His captioned portfolio runs to 119 frames and reads like a map of the state’s wedding country — Norton Summit, Mount Lofty House, Glen Ewin Estate, Kingsbrook Estate, the Barossa, the Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, Glenelg, Robe. Style & Approach
Unobtrusive when it suits the moment and directive when a couple needs it, with the emphasis on catching the day as it unfolds naturally. He is blunt about what he will not do: no cheesy shots, nobody draped over the bonnet of a car. He shoots Nikon, rarely uses flash, and edits on colour-calibrated monitors — the sort of detail he volunteers unprompted.
Ideal For
Couples marrying in the Barossa, the Adelaide Hills or Adelaide who want the whole day covered rather than a slice of it. His longer packages run to roughly fourteen hours on the reasoning that a wedding really is that long, and he argues hard for an album at the end of it.
