About

Overview & Vibe

The retail arm of a Tasmanian rose farm. Peter and Helen Lee founded Tamar Valley Roses at Rosevears in 1978 with a single greenhouse; their daughter Megan, who won Apprentice of the Year in both Tasmania and Victoria, opened the Launceston shop in 1998, and her brother Andrew came back with a doctorate to run the farm. Forty-seven years on it is still the same family.

Style & Signature Blooms

Roses first, and the shop is unusually specific about where everything else comes from: liliums, tulips, stock and snapdragons from Table Cape, alstroemeria from Gawler, freesias, iris and ranunculus from Wesleyvale, peonies and hydrangeas from the far north west, chrysanthemums from further down the valley. The gerberas and some of the foliage are grown on their own farm alongside the roses.

Ideal For

Couples marrying in and around Launceston who want a rose-led bouquet from people who grow roses for a living. The wedding work shown is bouquets rather than installations, from simple posies to fuller mixed designs, and each is quoted individually.

The Need-to-Knows

Delivery is a flat $16 across a named list of towns and free above $150, but the list is a closed one - Carrick, Westbury, Deloraine, Hadspen and Cressy are specifically excluded. Same-day delivery runs weekdays within Launceston for orders in by noon; anywhere else needs a day’s notice. There are no weekend or public holiday deliveries.

Standout Feature

Since 1985 the family has been the Australian cut-flower agent for Meilland, the French breeder behind Peace and Papa Meilland, which is how new rose varieties tend to reach Australia through this farm before anywhere else.
