Sutton Grange Winery
About
Overview & Vibe
A working winery at the foot of Mount Alexander, twenty minutes from Bendigo, holding a 2026 Halliday Wine Companion 5-Star rating. The buildings are the draw: a long red-roofed cellar door reached up brick steps, and behind it a barrel hall that becomes the reception room, its racks of oak running the length of the walls under festoon lights.
Setting & Style
Both indoor and outdoor ceremony options are offered, and the winery is explicit that the country-style cellar door is the wet-weather plan rather than an afterthought. Outside there is a dam with the winery on the rise behind it, gravel drives through the vines, and open paddock with the ranges beyond — the estate's own photographs show a draped ceremony arch at the water's edge and a bridal party on a ridge line.
Ideal For
Couples who want a genuine Bendigo-region winery with a barrel room to eat in, and who are comfortable getting the numbers by email rather than off a page.
The Need-to-Knows
- Expect to email for both figures.
- The ceremony can be booked on its own — “Ceremonies can be booked independently of receptions during certain months or held immediately prior to your reception.” Which months these are is not spelled out, so ask.
- Catering is the winery's. It offers “a range of catering packages to suit all occasions” alongside its own wines. No menu or per-head rate is published.
- Sit-down and cocktail are both offered — the enquiry form asks you to choose between them, which is the clearest published signal of what the venue does.
- The cellar door trades Sundays 12–5pm and the winery runs its own events, including barrel-room wine sales. Worth checking a date against.
- The address has no street number. The winery publishes “Carnochans Road, Sutton Grange” and nothing more precise.
Standout Feature
A five-star Halliday winery with a barrel hall you can hold the reception in, twenty minutes from Bendigo.

On Site Accommodation
Price Notes
- Pricing is provided on enquiry. The enquiry form lists "Wedding Ceremony" as a separate event type from "Wedding", confirming a ceremony can be booked on its own, and asks for your preferred date, expected guest numbers and dining style, sit-down or cocktail.
- Catering is in-house but unpriced: "With award winning wines, superb regional food and breathtaking views Sutton Grange Winery provides a range of catering packages to suit all occasions." No menu or per-head figure is published.
- The ceremony can be booked separately, with an unstated seasonal limit: 'Ceremonies can be booked independently of receptions during certain months or held immediately prior to your reception.' The months are not named. Worth asking early, because it determines whether a ceremony-only booking is possible on a given date.
- The wet-weather plan is the cellar door and is stated, which is unusual: 'In the event of poor weather or rain we can accommodate you in our beautiful country style Cellar Door space.' Most venues in this campaign either say nothing about wet weather or describe a marquee.
- A current credential the winery publishes: a 2026 Halliday 5 Star Winery rating from the Halliday Wine Companion.
- The cellar door is open to the public and the winery runs its own events. The site banner reads 'Cellar Door open Sunday 12-5pm. Join us for wine tastings, lunch or just a drink overlooking the estate' and 'Barrel Room Wine Sale - 1st & 2nd August 2026'. Since the barrel room is also the reception space, a wedding date should be checked against the winery's own calendar.
- The published address has no street number: 'Sutton Grange Winery, Carnochans Road, Sutton Grange, VIC, 3448, Australia'. Recorded as published rather than inventing a number; the winery is the only property of its name on that road.
