Light and Type is Nicole Peterson, a wedding photographer living in East Gippsland and working across Gippsland and Melbourne. She shoots on both 35mm film and digital, publishes her entry prices openly, and has photographed weddings at Chapter Barn, Hogget Kitchen in Warragul and Mewburn Park Homestead, as well as further afield in New Zealand and Italy.
She describes her approach in three words: relaxed, observant and intentional. She focuses on the quiet gestures, the laughter and the in-between glances rather than arranged poses, and says she will guide and direct rather than pose anyone awkwardly. Her aim is to fit in and feel like one of your good mates hanging out for the day, and she works with film alongside digital.
Couples marrying anywhere across Gippsland or around Melbourne who want the day recorded as it unfolds. She takes elopements as readily as full celebrations, and welcomes destination weddings, having already worked interstate, in New Zealand and in Italy.
She has been photographing weddings for more than ten years and trained first as a graphic designer, which shows in how carefully the details are seen. Working in 35mm film alongside digital is still unusual, and it is the reason her galleries carry a texture that a purely digital set does not.
