Paul Osta has photographed more than five hundred weddings across twenty years, and photography runs in the family — his father was a photojournalist in the Middle East and his brother has thirty years in the Melbourne wedding industry. He works from a 1960s white weatherboard house in Doncaster East that he calls home and base studio, and he is cheerfully specific about himself: espresso, Air Max 90s, snowboarding, and Scorsese films.
He describes his style as modern, candid and all about storytelling, and his work as relaxed, fun, romantic, stylish and dramatic. The promise is relaxed, natural photography without the awkward posing — he focuses on real emotions, laughter, happy tears and spontaneous hugs, and says he blends in like a guest and documents the day naturally. He does make time for what he calls the epic sunset photographs, twenty minutes with just the couple.
Couples who do not want their day measured in hours. He sets no strict hourly limits and instead fits the coverage to the shape of the day, from both sets of preparations through to about two hours into the reception. He is explicit about welcoming LGBTQ+ couples, and he photographs dog-friendly weddings often enough to have written about them. He also shoots commercial, branding, events and corporate work.
Packages start from $1,250 and are tailored rather than fixed, with albums and second shooters as extras. Every collection includes all the images, usually between 800 and 1,000, in colour and black and white, high resolution, watermark free and ready for printing, plus a slideshow. Previews arrive the same week. He suggests booking twelve to eighteen months ahead for spring and autumn, and travel fees may apply depending on location.
The albums. They are Australian made on archival papers and inks, custom designed with you down to the cover and the personalised embossing, bound in genuine leathers or fabrics — and they carry a lifetime warranty. He frames the whole thing as a gift for the generations that follow you, which is a rarer pitch than it sounds.
