Lachy Scallion has run Really Good Weddings since 2014, photographing couples across Victoria and Tasmania. The work leans toward weddings that skip the usual running order — registry ceremonies and lunches, backyard gatherings, elopements, city celebrations that move between a pub, a street and a restaurant. Coverage starts at two hours for a ceremony and portraits and runs to a full day.
Candid and documentary, with a stated preference for witnessing rather than directing. He does not pose the day or interrupt it, though guidance is there if it is wanted, and the aim is the natural unfolding of a wedding rather than a series of arranged photographs. Galleries come as a mix of black and white and colour. Polaroids can be added, shot through the day and handed over before it ends.
Couples marrying around Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and the Yarra Valley, and couples in Tasmania around Launceston and the highlands. The two-hour collection suits a registry ceremony with lunch after; the eight-hour one suits a full day with an album. Anyone who would rather stay at their own party than be taken away from it for a long portrait session will recognise the approach.
Three collections priced by coverage length, with extra hours, a coffee table album, a pre-wedding shoot and a print box available on top. A thousand-dollar deposit locks the date once a quote and contract are signed. A preview set lands within twenty-four hours and the full gallery within four weeks. Travel between locations counts inside coverage time, and country, interstate or overseas weddings are quoted individually.
Booking starts with a twenty-minute conversation online or in person before anything is signed — a deliberate check that the fit is right in both directions. There is also a coverage calculator on the site for couples trying to work out how many hours their day actually needs before they ask for a quote.
