Studio 477 has been photographing Melbourne weddings since 1980. Sam Vacirca grew up helping his father shoot them, studied at the Photographic Imaging College, and is an accredited professional photographer and a life member of the AIPP. The studio is a real one — a shopfront in Brunswick West, six kilometres north of the CBD, that couples are invited to visit.
Natural light and available light wherever possible, with a candid feel that is gently directed rather than left to chance. His own summary: classic, candid and never overdone, aiming for romantic and editorial images that still look like the day you lived. Colour correction is part of the coverage; retouching comes with an album.
Couples marrying in the city and wanting the grand Melbourne rooms done properly — the published work runs through Metropolis, The Trust, the Plaza Ballroom, Carousel at Albert Park and Stones of the Yarra Valley. Also a good fit if you would rather sit down with a photographer, look at printed albums, and decide in person before booking anything.
Packages start at $3,195, including high-resolution files, a private online gallery and a framed fine art print. A $750 deposit and a signed agreement secure the date, and bookings usually land nine to twelve months out, longer in peak season. Images are never watermarked. Album prices are not published, but ordering before the wedding attracts a discount.
Forty-five years and two generations of one family photographing the same city. That is unusual enough on its own, and it comes with the thing most studios cannot offer any more: somewhere to walk in, hold the albums, and see the print quality before you commit.
