Overview & Vibe

Luke has photographed more than four hundred weddings and has been doing it full time since 2017. He lives in Dunsborough and works mostly across the Margaret River region and the wider South West. The pitch is low-key and practical: he shapes the day so there is room to celebrate, then stays out of the way. Couples routinely tell him afterwards that it was more fun and much easier than they expected. His wife Kate edits the photographs and designs the albums.

Style & Approach

He calls it a relaxed documentary style. There are two or three points in the day where he steps in and directs — once everyone is dressed, the wedding party, and time for the two of you — and the rest is left to happen. He would rather anticipate a moment than work down a shot list, and says the best frames are usually candid ones taken while everyone is just hanging about somewhere good. He shoots alone by choice: no second photographer, on the view that extra people with cameras make a wedding feel like a production.

Ideal For

Couples who want the day to feel unhurried and are nervous about being photographed — he says every couple tells him the same thing. It suits both ends of the scale: a full eight-hour celebration with a packed dance floor, or something stripped back. Smaller weddings of around fifty guests and elopements of up to roughly fifteen have their own shorter, cheaper tiers, so a quiet ceremony is not priced as though it were a full day.

The Need-to-Knows

Coverage runs from two hours for an elopement to a standard eight-hour day, with extra time at four hundred dollars an hour. A full day returns between four hundred and fifty and five hundred or more fully edited high-resolution photographs, delivered through a private password-protected gallery that stays live for two years, with sneak peeks within a few days and the complete set inside six weeks. A deposit of one thousand dollars confirms the date and the balance falls due four weeks beforehand. He carries ten million dollars of public liability cover and backup equipment at every wedding.

Standout Feature

He plans the timeline with you from the first phone call, and he knows the region well enough to build it around the light rather than the clock — ceremony times, sunset, which side to stand on so the veil does not blow across your face, and which quiet beach to head for if the wind turns. He is, by his own admission, a bit of a weather nerd. One of his photographs is the cover of a Tim Winton book.
