Underatreehouse is Chris, a wedding and elopement photographer based on the New South Wales Central Coast and an outspoken LGBTQI+ ally who states plainly that couples of every background are welcome. He grew up in the United Kingdom, moved from the city to the coast for a slower life by the beach, and has spent around fifteen years photographing weddings and elopements.
Editorial, documentary and unposed. He describes spending much of a wedding day floating and watching for candid moments, aiming for honest and raw images rather than arranged ones, and cites the decisive moment as the idea behind the work. A background in fashion and street photography gives the pictures a sharper, more graphic edge than a purely reportage approach, and he is open that he does not want to repeat what he shot at the last wedding.
Adventurous couples, and anyone drawn to an elopement rather than a large traditional day. He is equally set up for a full wedding with two photographers, a half-day elopement, a two-day elopement experience built around travel, or a short mid-week booking by the hour. Same-sex and culturally diverse couples are explicitly welcomed.
Wedding packages run from $3,200 to $6,600 and elopement packages from $2,800 to $6,200, with a mid-week hourly option at $750 for the first hour and $450 for each hour after it. A signed contract and a non-refundable twenty five per cent booking fee secure the date, the balance falls due two weeks before and may be paid in instalments. Sneak peeks arrive within forty eight hours and the full gallery in four to six weeks.
