Ben Howland has photographed weddings from Newcastle since 2010 and is nearing six hundred of them. He works the day as a guest would — his own line is that he guides you for three per cent of it and spends the rest as a face in the crowd — and the pictures bear it out: groomsmen tying bow ties, a bride stepping out with the family dog, a dancefloor in black and white.
Style & Approach
He describes showing people as they truly are rather than when he asked them for a photo, and organises family groups and portraits quickly so you get back to your guests. He plans for thirty minutes of portraits, plus twenty more if there is a wedding party. Weather does not deter him — couples write about him working through rain that soaked him head to toe.
