Prea James Bridal
About
Overview & Vibe
Prea James is a Sydney label with a flagship boutique on Oxford Street in Paddington, and the thing that separates it from most of this database is that the gowns are made where they are sold: every piece is hand-cut and sewn in the label's own Sydney atelier. The aesthetic is modern and unfussy - clean bias-cut silk, sculpted corsetry, mini dresses and separates alongside full-length gowns - aimed at a bride who wants contemporary rather than traditional.
Dress Styles & Designers
One label, two lines. The Studio Collection is the demi-couture offering, from $8,000, with the greatest freedom to change a design. The Core Collection is the mainline, $2,500 to $7,500, released as seasonal ranges - Para Siempre '26, Allure II '25, Allure '24, Riviera '23 - alongside a permanent Classics collection. Beyond gowns the label publishes mini dresses, skirts, tops, corsets, separates, sleeves and veils, so a bride can build a look or change into something shorter for the reception.
Ideal For
The bride who is between standard sizes, and the bride who wants one clean modern gown rather than a ballroom. Split sizing is the standout here: you can order a gown with different standard sizes through the bust, waist and hips - included in the price on the Studio Collection, for a fee on Core. Sizes run AUS 6 to 18 with select designs to 24, and the Paddington flagship deliberately keeps size 14-18 samples rather than only 10s and 12s.
The Need-to-Knows
Gowns are made to order - allow 7 to 9 months, of which a minimum of 20 weeks is production in the Sydney atelier, plus 6 to 8 weeks for delivery and alterations. A rush service exists when fabric and the production schedule allow: $300 for orders under 20 weeks but over 8, $600 under 8 weeks. Design changes are possible - raising a neckline, adding sleeves, swapping a fabric, pairing one gown's skirt with another's bodice - and all incur an additional charge. Note that split-sized gowns are still made to the nearest standard size, not to measure.
Standout Feature
Split sizing, included free on the Studio Collection. Most bridal shops sell you one number and send you to an alterations room; Prea James lets you order a size 10 bust with a size 12 hip before the gown is cut. For anyone whose measurements do not sit on a single line of a size chart, that is a materially different offer.
Appointment Policy
- Appointments are booked through the label's own booking page.
- The Paddington flagship carries samples of each style, with a selection in sizes 14-18 as well as the more usual 10s and 12s.
- If a sample is not held in your size, stylists work with what is in the room to show how the gown will fit.
- To confirm which sizes are available in a specific style before visiting, the label asks brides to email sydney@preajames.com.au.
- Gowns can also be tried at the label's stockists, whose sample ranges vary by store.
- No appointment fee or guest limit is published.
Dress Designers
- Prea James. Description: The label and its only one. Gowns and separates are designed in-house and hand-cut and sewn in the label's own Sydney atelier, sold through the Paddington flagship and a network of retail stockists.
- Prea James Studio Collection. Description: The higher-end demi-couture line, from $8,000, offering the greatest flexibility for design changes and including split sizing in the price. Released as Collection 01 and Collection 02.
- Prea James Core Collection. Description: The mainline entry offering, $2,500 to $7,500, released as seasonal ranges - Para Siempre '26, Allure II '25, Allure '24 and Riviera '23 - plus a permanent Classics Collection.
Dress Experience
- Prea James makes what it sells. Once you order, your gown is hand-cut and sewn in the label's own Sydney atelier, which is why the lead time is stated so precisely: a minimum of twenty weeks in production, plus six to eight weeks for delivery and alterations, so seven to nine months from today is the comfortable number. The Paddington flagship holds samples of every style, and unusually it deliberately stocks a selection in sizes 14 to 18 rather than only the 10s and 12s most sample rails run to - and if your size is not in the room the stylists will tell you plainly and work with what is. The distinguishing offer is split sizing: order a gown with different standard sizes through the bust, waist and hips, free on the Studio Collection and for a fee on Core. The label is careful about what that does and does not mean - it is still made to the nearest standard size, not to measure, and they would rather not stretch beyond about a size and a half of difference. Design changes are welcomed within reason: a higher neckline, added sleeves, a different fabric, or one gown's skirt with another's bodice, each at an additional charge.
