Overview & Vibe

Under The Veil is a bridal and formalwear boutique in the Sarina Beach Road Shopping Centre, about 35 kilometres south of Mackay. Founded in 2009 by Samantha Cumming, who wanted “a beautiful boutique with exceptional customer service in the Mackay region”, it is a showroom rather than a shop floor: appointment-only, with a personal stylist, a chandelier-lit fitting room and curtained bays.

Dress Styles & Designers

Seventy wedding gowns are published, led by Tania Olsen Designs - including the 2025 Amour and Bisou collections - alongside Allure Bridals and Allure Romance, Abella by Allure, Wilderly Bride, Peter Trends Bridal, Rachel Rose and the Diva Curves range. The silhouettes run from boned Alençon-lace bodices on A-line tulle skirts through strapless ballgowns with lace-up backs to satin corset sheaths with detachable straps. Sizes run from 0 to 40, an exceptionally wide published range, and several gowns note a surcharge above size 16.

Ideal For

Brides in Sarina, Mackay and the surrounding Isaac and Whitsunday country who want a private appointment rather than a shop floor, and who need a genuinely wide size range. The store also dresses the rest of the party, with 55 bridesmaid styles, 44 formal gowns, mother-of-the-bride and cocktail ranges, veils and bridal jewellery. Brides working to a tight budget will find discontinued last-one gowns.

The Need-to-Knows

Appointment only - call 07 4943 0000 and leave a message. Gowns are ordered to a stock size, not made to measure, and can take up to 24 weeks; a rush order may be possible for a fee. Once ordered there is no cancellation or refund. Alterations are not done in house and the store advises booking a dressmaker for when the gown arrives. Ready-to-wear items can be exchanged within 7 days.

The boutique photographs its range on named local models rather than on campaign imagery alone, and publishes each one’s height and usual size - Shelby from Mackay at 175cm and a size 14, Fallon who grew up in Koumala - so a bride can judge how a gown will actually sit on a body like hers.

Appointments are the only way in: brides call and leave a message to book, and are then met by a personal stylist who takes them through the sample range while their guests relax. Sparkling wine, coffee and nibbles can be pre-ordered in advance for what the store calls "a more personalised mini bridal party celebration". The buying process is set out unusually plainly. Gowns are ordered to a stock size rather than made to measure, can take up to 24 weeks to arrive, and cannot be cancelled or refunded once ordered; the store tells brides to have a dressmaker booked for when the gown lands. Alterations are not done in house. The boutique also publishes its own measuring guide, and photographs its range on local models it names and measures - among them Shelby from Mackay and Fallon, a Sarina local - listing each model's height and usual size so a bride can judge fit from the photograph.
