Kieron Place has been photographing the Mackay region for more than twenty years, and weddings sit alongside family portraits, maternity and newborn sessions, school formals, events, real estate and sport in a genuinely general practice. He works as a one-man band with his wife Jenny assisting, and the pitch is practical rather than poetic: be present for the whole day, stay out of the way, and come back with everything that mattered.
Style & Approach
His approach is documentary and unforced. He describes capturing the bride having her hair and makeup done, the groom nervously adjusting his tie, and the real cake cutting rather than the staged one, and he argues that a wedding photographer needs almost every skill set at once because the day asks for event, portrait and fashion work in the same afternoon.
