Bluebird Bridal is a pre-loved gown studio in Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast, run by appointment only and one bride at a time. Its owner Adriana opened it after her own 2017 wedding, wanting to offer “the joyful wedding dress experience without the big price tag”. Every gown on the rack has been worn once and consigned by the bride who wore it.
Because the stock is consignment it turns over constantly, but the labels that come through are named: Grace Loves Lace, Enzoani, Evie Young Bridal, Madi Lane, Made With Love, Essense of Australia, KYHA, Stella York, Mia Solano, When Freddie Met Lilly, Nicolina, D’Amour, San Patrick, Needle & Thread and Tania Olsen. Sizes run 4 to 28, and prices start from around $300 - typically 40 to 60 percent of what the gown originally cost.
Brides on a short timeframe, since every gown can be taken home the day of the appointment with no ordering wait; brides working to a budget who still want a designer label; and brides who care about not buying new. It is also where a Capricorn Coast bride sells her own gown afterwards. There is a mother-of-the-bride and mother-of-the-groom range as well.
Appointment only, one hour, maximum four guests because of the studio’s size, and not a child-friendly space. Come with no fake tan, no make up and minimal jewellery - the gowns have to stay saleable. Everything is sold as is: no refunds, returns or exchanges. To consign a gown it must be under three years old (vintage and classic excepted), in excellent condition and professionally dry cleaned, with a term usually of six months to a year.
You walk out with the dress. In a category where a gown is normally ordered to a stock size and waited on for five to eight months, every gown here is on the rack, in the room, available the same day.
