Alexis George
About
Overview & Vibe
Alexis George is an Australian fashion house that has been making custom bridal couture in the same Adelaide showroom for over 40 years — since 1980. Creative Directors Pat and George Georgiou still run the design consultations themselves. The showroom sits on Fullarton Road at Norwood, and the workroom is literally behind it: every gown is cut, fitted and finished on the premises. It is the oldest bridal business in the campaign after Raffaele Ciuca (1956) and Archela Bridal (1982).
Dress Styles & Designers
One label, its own: Alexis George. The catalogue runs to 30 gowns, each photographed front and back on the form. The house look is clean and architectural rather than decorative — slim faille and crepe columns, soft A-lines, mermaid silhouettes, and tulle skirts with real volume, with the ornament concentrated in hand-beading, 3D floral lace and detachable overskirts. Fabrics are sourced worldwide: silks and laces from France, Italy and Japan, with an in-house archive of vintage laces to choose from.
Ideal For
The bride who wants to design a dress rather than choose one. The couture route begins with a one-hour consultation, moves through a calico toile, and runs to four to six fittings over several months — the boutique commits to as many as the gown needs. It also suits the bride who wants that make quality without the wait: there is a large off-the-rack range, altered in-house. Brides interstate and overseas are taken on provided they can visit Adelaide a couple of times.
The Need-to-Knows
You do not need an appointment to browse, only to try on — and consultations are free, one hour, one-on-one, with three guests maximum. Off-the-rack samples run AU 4 to 16; anything else is custom made to measure. Book 9–12 months ahead — workroom fittings are often full six months out, though rush orders are considered. Payment is 50% non-refundable on signing and 50% on pickup, by card or cash. There are no refunds or cancellations once the contract is signed, because the fabric is ordered and the workroom starts immediately.
Standout Feature
The gown is made in the room behind the showroom. Measurements are taken by the house Master Patternmaker, the first toile is cut in calico, and the final fitting happens the week of the wedding — which is also when you take the dress home, so a change in shape between order and wedding day is simply fitted out. Forty years of that in one address on Fullarton Road.

Dress Designers
- Alexis George. Description: The house's own label and the only one it carries. An Australian fashion house making custom bridal couture since 1980, led by Creative Directors Pat and George Georgiou, with every gown hand made in the Adelaide workroom behind the showroom. Not stocked by any other retailer.
Dress Experience
- Alexis George has designed and made bridal couture in the same Adelaide showroom since 1980, and the workroom sits directly behind the shop. Browsing the racks needs no appointment; trying gowns on or starting a custom design does. The couture journey runs in five stages: a one-hour design and fit consultation with a bridal designer, free of charge, where silhouettes, shapes and fabrics are explored and a design agreed; fabric selection from an in-house archive of vintage laces, silks, hand-beaded designs and tulles, with specific fabrics sourced on request; precise measurement by the house Master Patternmaker and a first toile cut in calico; four to six fittings over several months as the gown is assembled, with the boutique committing to as many fittings as a perfect fit needs; and a final press and finish in the week of the wedding, when the gown is collected. Off-the-rack gowns are also sold and altered in-house, with the alterations quoted at the first consultation. Fabrics come from France, Italy and Japan, and gowns are made for interstate and overseas brides who can travel to Adelaide.

Price Notes
- The boutique quotes three different starting prices for off-the-rack gowns — $2,500, $3,000 and, alongside a half-price sale notice, "from $1,500". The $2,500 figure is the one recorded here, so confirm which applies when you book.
- A half-price bridal sale was running in store when this listing was compiled, which likely explains the lowest of the advertised starting prices.
- Payment is 50% non-refundable on signing the bridal contract, with the remaining 50% due when the dress is collected; the boutique states it is flexible on arrangements.
- Accepted payment methods are Visa, Mastercard, debit and cash.
- There are no refunds and no cancellations once the contract is signed, because fabric is ordered and the workroom begins immediately.
- Alterations to off-the-rack gowns are included in the quote given at the first consultation.
- The boutique recommends shopping 9-12 months ahead; couture fitting times are often booked out six months in advance, though rush orders are considered.
- Changes after the deposit are possible and may carry an extra charge, though the shape of the gown and the main fabric cannot be changed.
- Final price depends on the fabrics and style chosen.
