Wedding Photographers · Adelaide, South Australia
Simon Bills has photographed weddings since 2008 and counts more than 430 of them, in South Australia and abroad. He was named AIPP South Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year in 2017. He was a chartered accountant first, which he says still shows in how calmly the family photographs get organised, and he works from a home studio at Wattle Park.
Candid, documentary and editorial at once, in his own description: real moments as they happen, with the elegance of editorial imagery and a timeless finish. He shoots alone and deliberately so, on small silent cameras, because in his experience an assistant turns the day into a photo shoot. He describes learning to ride the wave of a wedding rather than fight it.
Couples who want an unobtrusive photographer rather than a director, and who like knowing the price before they enquire. Three wedding collections are published outright, and elopements and small weddings have their own hourly rate.
Collections run $4,450 for six hours, $5,450 for all day to 10pm and $7,250 for all day to the end of the night, the last including a 60-page album. Elopements are $1,600 for two hours with $350 for each further half hour. Photographs arrive within four weeks, often sooner, with a sneak peek on the night itself.
He has missed two weddings in fifteen years, one for the birth of his son and one for Covid, and says he is well connected enough among Adelaide photographers to cover the rest. He carries backup equipment for the same reason.
