Simon Hackett Winery

McLaren Vale / Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia Capacity: 60–150 From: From $149 p/head

About

Overview & Vibe

A McLaren Vale winery that does nothing else. Its own summary is three sentences long: “We're a McLaren Vale winery completely dedicated to weddings. No cellar door ~ No restaurant. Only weddings.” Thirty-five minutes from the Adelaide CBD, at the gateway to the Vale.

Setting & Style

Ceremonies run outdoors on the lawn with the vineyard behind — the winery's photographs show the aisle framed through a stone arch, rows of white Americana chairs and the vines running to the hills. Dinner moves to a clear-walled marquee looking over the vineyard, on custom Siberian larch tables with white bentwood chairs and a heated dancefloor.

Ideal For

Couples who want a McLaren Vale vineyard wedding with everything itemised in advance. This is one of the most completely priced venues in the campaign — the 32-page pack leaves very little to discover later.

The Need-to-Knows

  • Venue hire is $5,000, or $3,500 off peak — off peak being Friday and Saturday in June, July and August, and Thursday and Sunday all year round. Either buys 7.5 hours of event time.
  • There is a minimum spend, by day: 60 people Thursday, Friday and Sunday; 80 people Saturday. The winery adds that “smaller weddings are always considered upon request.”
  • The catering is not locked in. Its preferred kitchens are named, but “we won't lock you into them if you have another cuisine or catering company in mind” — self-catering drops the cost to venue hire plus $129pp for drinks.
  • The day runs to a fixed shape: guests arrive 3:30pm, ceremony 4pm, departure 11pm unless the $14pp midnight extension is added. Earlier ceremonies are allowed, particularly when the sun sets before 6:30pm.
  • No accommodation on site, but the winery points to a property “located 500m directly behind” it.

Standout Feature

A winery with no cellar door and no restaurant — the whole site exists for the wedding in it.

Price Notes

  • Venue hire is separate from and additional to the per-head package: $5,000 at peak, or $3,500 off peak (Fridays and Saturdays in June, July and August, and Thursdays and Sundays year-round). Both buy 7.5 hours of event time.
  • Minimum spend is set by day of week: 'Thursday, Friday and Sunday weddings have a 60 person minimum spend. Saturday weddings have an 80 person minimum spend. Smaller weddings are always considered upon request.'
  • Catering is not tied. 'Whilst, we adore our go-to caterers at Kitchen & Catering By Sam and Mattia Cirulli, we won't lock you into them if you have another cuisine or catering company in mind.' Self-catering reduces the cost to venue hire plus $129pp for unlimited drinks 4.30pm-10.30pm.
  • The day has a published shape: 'Guest arrival is 3.30pm for a 4pm ceremony. Guests departure time is 11pm unless the $14pp midnight extension is added. Earlier ceremony times are allowed...' Included beverages run 4.30pm to 10.30pm, 'with the option to extend earlier or later for $14pp per hour'.
  • ADD-ONS ARE ALL PRICED: Unlimited Spirits $25pp for the final 3 hours or $30pp for the final 4; extended pre-ceremony drinks $10pp (guests arrive from 3.15pm, complimentary beer, wine and sparkling 3.15-4.30pm); extend to midnight $14pp; 50 Limoncello or Aperol Spritz $500 served during cocktail hour, plus $10 per spritz beyond 50; 50 shots (espresso, coffee tequila, Fireball or Ouzo) with $6 per shot beyond 50; and Disco Balls $300 for '18+ disco balls to truly vibe out your dancefloor'.
  • Food add-ons: Grazing Table for 70 to 90 people $950; Porcini & Truffle Arancini Balls $8pp; Sicilian Cannoli $5pp; sliders and herbed crumbed garfish $10-$12pp. The pack notes 'Food add-on pricing is subject to change' and 'Menus are always subject to change'.
  • Under-18 guests are charged separately: '$50 for their softdrink package and $30 for a kids meal or $80 for an adult meal'.
  • Supplier meals: 'KCBS will feed up to 5 of your suppliers for free. Additional suppliers are charged $50pp on your final invoice.'
  • A public holiday surcharge of $1,500 is added to the final invoice.
  • BYO is partially allowed: 'BYO wine and beer is permitted and can be served in conjunction with a paid drinks package. BYO of spirits is...' - truncated in the source, but the winery separately states that under its package 'SHW do not serve shots or straight whiskey'. If pre-ceremony drinks are not purchased, 'the bar will be open for guests to purchase drinks'.
  • Cancellation and postponement: final payment is due at least 3 weeks before the wedding; after final payment a cancellation is 'refunded $20pp'; with more than 14 months notice a postponement is allowed, but the new date will be a Friday or Saturday and 'is subject to an 80 person minimum spend + the requirement to include the pre-ceremony drinks and extend your wedding to midnight' add-ons. Once invoiced, 'You are not subject to any price increases (or decreases).'
  • There is no accommodation on the winery itself. It recommends a property "located 500m directly behind Simon Hackett Winery", and names a separate recovery venue.
  • No phone number is published. Contact is by email only, hello@simonhackettwinery.com.au, and the winery states its hours as 'We do not operate a cellar door. We only open for weddings.' Venue tours are advertised as scheduled dates - 'Email hello@simonhackettwinery.com.au to book in a casual 15 minute visit.'
  • The prices above come from the winery's 2026 and 2027 package, dated January 2026 and applying from May 2026.
