The Wool Press is a 1960s shearing shed on Murray River Road at Granya, forty minutes east of Albury-Wodonga, set on twenty-two acres in the rolling hills above Lake Hume. It shore sheep until 2004 and took two years to convert. The bones were kept — industrial steel beams and cypress pine floorboards — and everything a wedding needs was added around them.

Setting & Style

Inside is corrugated iron, exposed trusses and festoon lights, big enough for two hundred standing or a hundred and fifty at long tables, with room to hang greenery installations or a chandelier off the beams. The conversion added full toilets, a bar, a food preparation area, a large entertaining deck looking out over the lake, and a wheelchair-accessible ramp. Outside there is paddock, a dam, gum trees and the hills; ceremonies happen under a gum or out on the grass, and the deck takes the drinks in between.
