Annie’s Retreat is a working vineyard and orchard on Nichol Road at Allans Flat, on a hilltop three hundred metres up with views across the valley to Mount Buffalo and the Baranduda Ranges. Ten minutes from Yackandandah and twenty-five from Albury, it has been running Shiraz vines, pistachio trees and Angus cattle for over fifteen years, with an event centre alongside.
Ceremonies take place outdoors — a timber arbour on the lawn backed by a clipped hedge and open sky, or under the trees. Receptions run from a stretch tent on the grass, furnished with the property’s own wine barrels and lit with festoons after dark. Three distinct areas on the property suit different scales, down to small gatherings in the herb garden, and a ten-acre sculptured garden surrounds the whole thing. There is a commercial catering kitchen on site, so couples can bring their own caterer or a visiting chef, and a movable bar that works indoors or out.
Couples who want a hilltop vineyard setting in the alpine foothills with the freedom to choose their own caterer, and who are comfortable building the day from parts rather than buying a fixed package.
