Annie's Retreat
About
Overview & Vibe
Annie's Retreat is a working vineyard and orchard on Nichol Road at Allans Flat, on a hilltop three hundred metres up with views across the valley to Mount Buffalo and the Baranduda Ranges. Ten minutes from Yackandandah and twenty-five from Albury, it has been running Shiraz vines, pistachio trees and Angus cattle for over fifteen years, with an event centre alongside.
Setting & Style
Ceremonies take place outdoors — a timber arbour on the lawn backed by a clipped hedge and open sky, or under the trees. Receptions run from a stretch tent on the grass, furnished with the property's own wine barrels and lit with festoons after dark. Three distinct areas on the property suit different scales, down to small gatherings in the herb garden, and a ten-acre sculptured garden surrounds the whole thing. There is a commercial catering kitchen on site, so couples can bring their own caterer or a visiting chef, and a movable bar that works indoors or out.
Ideal For
Couples who want a hilltop vineyard setting in the alpine foothills with the freedom to choose their own caterer, and who are comfortable building the day from parts rather than buying a fixed package.
The Need-to-Knows
- The venue accommodates 30 to 150 guests, which it states as its maximum.
- Pricing is not published. Event packages are quoted at a set price for 50–80 guests and a second set price for exclusive use at 90–150 — both on enquiry. Weddings are planned around a six-hour event, with longer durations negotiable.
- Catering is your own, or a visiting chef in the on-site commercial kitchen; the venue can arrange professional caterers at additional cost.
- Included in event packages: wine barrels, easels and vases for styling, toilet hire scaled to guest numbers, two staff for setup and decoration, and all cleaning and waste removal afterwards.
- Free on-site parking for 60–80 cars, and security provided during the event.
- Accommodation on site is a single tiny house, booked through Airbnb, Booking.com or Tiny Away rather than through the venue.
- Site visits are by appointment; the property is open Friday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.
Standout Feature
A hilltop vineyard three hundred metres up, with the ceremony lawn looking straight out over the valley to Mount Buffalo.

On Site Accommodation
- One tiny house sits on the property - Nichol Road Hideaway at Annie's Retreat, operated by Tiny Away. It is a 139 square foot cabin on the hilltop with 360-degree valley views, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, a BBQ fire-pit, an eco-friendly cassette toilet, hand basin and gas-heated shower. Booking is not through the venue: guests search for Nichol Road Hideaway on Airbnb, Booking.com or the Tiny Away site. Check-in is after 2pm and check-out before 10am. Tiny house guests may use the ten-acre sculptured garden, but the farmhouse, herb garden, vineyard sheds and event centre shed are restricted, as are the pastures and orchards unless accompanied by a host. The venue notes there may be noise from cattle, the farm dog and magpies.
Price Notes
- No prices are published. Event packages are quoted at a set price by guest band - 50 to 80 guests at a set price, and 90 to 150 guests at a set price for exclusive use of the premises - with both stated as 'please enquire'. Weddings are planned around a six-hour event, and the venue says it is open to negotiation for longer events. A pricing guide is referenced on the weddings page, covering a six-hour event plus recommendations for caterers and party hire companies, but it is not published as a download.
- What the package covers is described in detail even though the price is not. Venue rental is exclusive access to the grounds, vineyard and gardens. Personalised wedding planning and a dedicated wedding specialist are included, as are customised decor and styling assistance covering floral arrangements and lighting. The venue supplies wine barrels, easels and vases as decorative features, arranges toilet hire scaled to the number of attendees, provides two staff members for setup and decoration, and handles all cleaning, waste removal and disposal afterwards. Free on-site parking for 60 to 80 cars is provided, and security services are provided during the event. Catering is either your own team or professional caterers arranged by the venue at additional cost, using the fully equipped commercial catering kitchen; an outdoor/indoor movable bar is available for beverage service.
- NOTE a stale inclusion on a current page: the weddings page offers a complimentary case of six bottles of Annie's Retreat Sparkling Shiraz, but the sentence is dated - 'In 2023, every booking, you will receive a complimentary case' - and is qualified 'until stock runs out'. The site is otherwise current, carrying a 2026 copyright. Treat the wine as an offer to confirm rather than a standing inclusion.
