Made By Rose is a one-woman bridal studio at Kilaben Bay on Lake Macquarie, run by Rose, who made her first commissioned wedding dress at fifteen — cutting on her parents' living room floor, after apprenticing under a local bridal couturier — and is now more than ten years into her own studio. Two things happen here: bespoke gowns designed from scratch, and alterations and re-styles of a gown bought anywhere else.

Dress Styles & Designers

No labels are stocked. Every gown is designed with the bride and cut to her measurements, so the only designer here is the house. The process is published plainly: “it begins with initial sketches and concepts, the first fittings, where mock fabrics are involved… your design evolves with each fit.” Its gallery runs from clean satin columns to full ball gowns, puff sleeves, heirloom lace and short gowns.

Ideal For

Two very different brides. One wants a gown that does not exist yet. The other already owns her dress and needs it to actually fit — and this studio is unusually good news for her, because it publishes fixed alteration package prices where the industry norm is a vague hourly quote. Its own framing: “Unlike traditional bridal alterations where pricing can feel vague and hard to budget for… clear package options, transparent pricing.” It also takes heirloom, vintage and secondhand gowns for re-style.

The Need-to-Knows

By appointment only, Tuesday and Wednesday 10–4 and Thursday 10–6, with only one evening slot a week. It is a private studio: only the suburb is published, not a street address. Bespoke bookings are taken no further than 18 months out, twelve months is ideal, and first fittings begin around six months out. For alterations, book as soon as you buy the dress — first fitting is scheduled about ten weeks before the wedding, and rush fees start at $200 inside a four-week turnaround.

Standout Feature

A published price list for bridal alterations. The Classic Gown Glow Up is $680 and itemises exactly what it covers — initial and pickup fittings, hemming up to three skirt layers, taking in the bodice, bust cups, strap adjustments and a bustle to three points. The Ball Gown Edition is $850. A full Re-Style is $1,500. Almost nobody in Australian bridal publishes this, and it is the single most-asked, least-answered question a bride has after she buys her dress.

Appointment Policy

The studio works by appointment only; booking times are Tuesday 10am to 4pm, Wednesday 10am to 4pm and Thursday 10am to 6pm.
Only one evening appointment is offered per week, on Thursday, and after-hours bookings are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Out-of-town bespoke brides may be accommodated on an alternative day, depending on timeframe and availability.

Price Notes

The Classic Gown Glow Up alteration package is $680 and covers an initial fitting and a pickup fitting, hemming up to three skirt layers, taking in the bodice, inserting bust cups, strap adjustments and a bustle or train pickup to three points.
The Ball Gown Edition alteration package is $850, adding fitting and sewing time for full skirts and heavy fabrics.
A full Re-Style is $1,500 and is aimed at heirloom, vintage or secondhand gowns.
Additional fees apply to sleeves, beading, lace and other complex design elements on top of any alteration package.
Rush fees start at $200 for alterations turned around within four weeks from first fitting to pickup.
Bespoke custom-made bridal gown packages start from $5,500 in one place and $6,000 including GST in another, with custom minis from $3,000 including GST and alteration packages $720 to $930. Confirm the current figure when you enquire.
No accurate quote is given before consultation, because each gown is crafted to the individual bride's body and needs.
Custom watercolour wedding illustrations are priced separately: A5 $100, A4 $400 and A3 $600, taking eight to twelve weeks, with full payment preferred or a 50% deposit to secure the order. Framing is not included. No refunds once the draft sketch is approved.
