Merewether Surfhouse stands directly on Merewether Beach at the southern end of Newcastle’s coastline, a glass-and-concrete building with 270-degree ocean views from every corner of it.

Setting & Style

The wedding spaces occupy the second level, above the beach rather than merely near it. Movable walls let the floor be divided or opened out, so the same building handles forty guests and three hundred and fifty. Each space comes with a private bar, a balcony, a dance floor and built-in AV, and the surf runs the length of the windows throughout. Below sit the beach bar cafe, the restaurant and the kiosk, all open seven days.

Seated Package: $150 per head peak (September-May), $140 off-peak (June-August), $120 for lunch (January-December). Cocktail Package: $140 peak, $130 off-peak, $110 lunch. Evening packages include 6 hours venue hire, canapes on arrival, a 3-course alternate-serve meal (seated) or the Platinum Canape Package (cocktail), a 5.5 hour Silver Beverage Package and a tea and coffee station; lunch packages include 4 hours venue hire, a 2-course meal or Silver Canape Package and a 3.5 hour beverage package. Children $40, teenagers $100. Optional extras include bread and butter on arrival $2, spritz on arrival $18, Platinum Beverage Package upgrade $15, cheese or antipasto platters $180 and fruit platters $150. The initial microphone is $100 with additional microphones $50 each. Included as standard: a wedding and events team, cake cutting and service onto platters at a cake station, a silver cake knife, set-up of place cards, gift table, personal items and seating chart, oval guest tables (maximum 10 per table) with white linen, glassware, silver cutlery and white crockery, high bar tables and stools, alfresco lounges on the balcony, a clothed bridal, gift and cake table, chair covers and sashes, a parquetry dance floor, an in-house PA system with iPod connectivity and an easel.
