Newcastle Racecourse at Broadmeadow is minutes from the CBD and is, on its own reckoning, “Newcastle’s most versatile event destination” — ten indoor rooms, two permanent marquees and three outdoor spaces, every one of them published with a floor area, a capacity in five seating styles and a full-day hire fee. Very few venues in this database show their working this completely.
For a wedding the two marquees are the point. Trackside Marquee is 600m² and the venue calls it “elegant weddings, exhibitions, large celebrations under the stars” — 380 banquet or 600 cocktail. Meadows Marquee is the newer one, 250m², “sophisticated weddings, exclusive dinners, intimate refined celebrations”, with an adjoining deck for pre-dinner drinks. Indoors, Chevals is a split-level restaurant on the first floor of the Members Grandstand overlooking the parade ring and the finishing line.
Almost any size — the venue quotes packages “for between 20 and 10,000 guests” — but especially couples who want a marquee on lawns without hiring one, and who value 900 free on-site car parks. Catering is in-house.
Room hire is charged on top of the per-head catering and it is published: the marquees are the two most expensive rooms on the list. Beverages are a third line again — three packages over three hours. And this is a working racecourse, so a wedding date has to sit around the racing calendar; the next meeting is shown on every page.
The transparency. A current venue-hire brochure gives the area, five seating configurations and the full-day hire cost for every single space, and the catering pages price three-course dinners, four canapé tiers, three buffets and three beverage packages. A couple can build a realistic budget before making contact — which is the exception, not the rule.
