Customs House Hotel
About
Overview & Vibe
Customs House Hotel has stood on Newcastle's harbour foreshore since 1877, when it housed the Australian Customs offices. It is heritage listed, built in Italianate Renaissance Revival style, and has been a fixture of the Newcastle CBD for well over a century.
Setting & Style
The wedding spaces are upstairs. Customs Hall is the large one — an open room with an ornate marble fireplace and a bar overlooking the water, holding two hundred for cocktails or a hundred and forty seated. The Harbourmasters Lounge is smaller and higher-ceilinged, with timber floors, harbour windows and its own private bar, for sixty cocktail or forty seated. Below them the Collectors Room seats twenty beside a bay window over the beer garden and fountain, with the Examiners Room, the Long Room and the Old Pool Room filling in around them. A ground-floor restaurant, bar and beer garden run underneath the lot.
