The Desert Park sits on Larapinta Drive in the foothills of the West MacDonnell Ranges, and it is not one venue but nine — a courtyard that takes 800 for a banquet, an open-air amphitheatre in the woodlands, a purpose-built function room looking straight at Alhekulyele (Mt Gillen), a nocturnal house where you can dine among desert animals in the dark, and a storytelling flat with a camp fire. It is a Northern Territory Government park, so the setting is genuine Central Australian country rather than landscaping.

The spaces range from a 30-seat meeting room to the Courtyard, which publishes a capacity of 800 banquet / 600 cocktail / 1,500 theatre. Madigans Function Centre is the roofed option with uninterrupted range views; the Amphitheatre is tiered seating under the sky; Lhere Ilthe Shelter sits on the bank of a dry river bed.

Ideal For

Couples who want Central Australia itself as the venue — and who are either very small or very large, because the range here runs from a camp fire at Awaye Flat to the biggest published wedding capacity in the region by a wide margin.

The Need-to-Knows

Nine spaces with published capacities and nothing else published about money. Site fees are quoted case by case: “Function site fees are determined by the Alice Springs Desert Park according to the total number of guests, requested function site, length of function, set-up times and the client's individual requirements.”
The deposit is 50% of the site hire fee, and quoted prices are “firm from payment of deposit for a period for 6 months.” Confirmation is due within 14 days of reserving.
Catering is described two different ways — the weddings page says “our on-site catering team crafts menus” and points to Reality Bites Catering; the booking form says “You are welcome to bring in your preferred caterer, but please note kitchen facilities are not available.” Both are the park's own documents. Ask which applies to your space.
Dietary requirements are covered explicitly: “Specialising in catering for most dietary requirements, there is always vegan, gluten and/or diary free options.”
Madigans Function Centre is hired through the caterer, not the park — the weddings page directs you to Reality Bites for it.
Final numbers are binding. They are due three clear working days ahead and “will represent the minimum number of guests for which the client will be charged.”
There is no accommodation on site, and the park's public opening hours are daytime only — evening functions are a separate arrangement.

From the venue hire booking form's terms: 'Function Site Fees - Function site fees are determined by the Alice Springs Desert Park according to the total number of guests, requested function site, length of function, set-up times and the client's individual requirements. The client may incur additional costs should their requirements change.' The form has blank lines for 'Venue Hire (per day) $' rather than a rate.
THE FINANCIAL TERMS THAT ARE PUBLISHED: 'Confirmation - Confirmation of a function booking must be made within 14 days of the original reservation. THE PARK CONTRADICTS ITSELF ON CATERING, AND BOTH SOURCES ARE ITS OWN. The weddings page: 'Our on-site catering team crafts menus that complement the setting... For catering options and for Madigan's Function Centre venue hire, visit the website of our on-site caterer Reality Bites Catering.' The venue hire booking form: 'CATERING: You are welcome to bring in your preferred caterer, but please note kitchen facilities are not available.' The likeliest reading is that Reality Bites operates Madigans and the park's other sites are bring-your-own without kitchen access, but the park does not say so. Recorded as published; confirm before planning either way.
MADIGANS FUNCTION CENTRE IS BOOKED THROUGH THE CATERER, NOT THE PARK. The weddings page routes 'Madigan's Function Centre venue hire' to Reality Bites Catering at info@realitybitescatering.com.au. THE VENUE INFORMATION SHEET IS TOO OLD TO QUOTE PRICES FROM AND CONTAINS NO EXTRACTABLE TEXT ANYWAY. /_media/documents/venues-and-functions/venue-information-sheet.pdf is a 14 MB, 3-page Canva document titled 'VENUE / LOCATION HIRE Teaser', authored by Alice Springs Desert Park, CreationDate 7 February 2024 - twenty-nine months old, outside the two-year window. It is image-only (2 characters of extractable text). Structural facts from it would stand; pricing would not, so it was not used. The booking form is older still (ModDate 20 May 2021) and carries no rates, only terms.
THE SITE IS BEHIND A WAF THAT REFUSES PLAIN CLIENTS. Both the weddings page and every image under /_media/ return 403 to a plain HTTP client and to WebFetch; a browser User-Agent plus a cookie jar, an Accept-Language header and a same-site Referer gets through.
