Overview & Vibe

A 16-hectare arid-zone botanic garden in the middle of Alice Springs, on Arrernte country, growing over 600 Central Australian plant species — 145 of them occurring naturally on the site and 40 rare or threatened. It is a real botanic garden that hires out its grounds, not a function centre with plants: “Hold your next event in a desert botanic garden rich in native flora, fauna and cultural heritage. We welcome weddings, conferences, festivals, birthdays and more.”

Setting & Style

Six bookable spaces, every one of them priced and sized. They run from the Boat Area and the Blakeman Shelter & Sandpit (30–50 people, no power, firewood on request) through the Gazebo and the timber-lined Gallery (40 each) and the Café Courtyard (80 seated, 120 standing) to the Major Events Area, which takes 300 seated or 350 standing under river red gums. Above it all is Tharrarletneme (Annie Meyers Hill), with views over the town to the MacDonnell Ranges.

Ideal For

Couples who want a Central Australian garden ceremony at a published, genuinely low price — and who are happy to build the day themselves around a venue that supplies the ground and not much else.

The Need-to-Knows

The whole hire schedule is published, and it is inexpensive. Boat Area and Blakeman $65 for 2–4 hours or $100 a day; Gazebo $80 / $140; Gallery $150 / $200; Café Courtyard $150 flat; Major Events Area $495 / $750. For an Alice Springs wedding those are hire fees, not packages.
The biggest space is the barest. The Major Events Area seats 300 but “chairs & tables NOT provided” — the venue is explicit. Every smaller space does include them.
Two spaces have no power and no lighting at all — the Boat Area and the Blakeman Shelter & Sandpit. Firewood is available on request for the Boat Area. The Gazebo, Gallery, Café Courtyard and Major Events Area are powered and lit.
The Café Courtyard is available after 4pm only, because the Bean Tree Café trades there during the day.
No catering, no bar and no pricing for either is published. The Bean Tree Café is on site and is the obvious starting point, but the venue-hire page covers the ground and the furniture only.
The garden is open to the public 8am–6pm every day except Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Confirm what exclusivity your hire actually buys.

Price Notes

The full hire schedule is published space by space, and it is unusually cheap. Boat Area $65 for two to four hours or $100 for a full day; Blakeman Shelter and Sandpit the same; Gazebo $80 or $140; Gallery $150 or $200; Cafe Courtyard $150 flat; Major Events Area $495 or $750. These are hire fees for the ground and, in most cases, the furniture, rather than wedding packages.
The largest space does not include furniture and the garden says so in capitals of its own: Major Events Area, 'Seats up to 300 (chairs & tables NOT provided)'. Every other space specifies 'chairs provided' or 'chairs & tables provided'. A 300-guest wedding here therefore carries a separate hire bill that is not published.
Two spaces have no power and no lighting - the Boat Area and the Blakeman Shelter & Sandpit, both stated as 'No power, no lighting'. The Boat Area adds 'Firewood available upon request'. The Gazebo, Gallery, Cafe Courtyard and Major Events Area all state 'Power & lighting', and the Gallery adds a 'split system' (air conditioning).
The cafe courtyard is evening-only: 'Available after 4pm only.' The Bean Tree Cafe operates there during the day and keeps its own trading hours, separate from the garden's gate hours.
No catering, bar or beverage arrangement is published. The venue-hire page covers spaces, capacities, furniture, power and price, and stops there. The Bean Tree Cafe is on site and has its own page and phone number (0447 270 949), but is not presented as the venue's caterer. A couple must ask.
The garden is open to the public during hire hours — seven days a week, 8am to 6pm, except Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Nothing published sets out what exclusivity a hire buys, so ask.
Booking is by an expression-of-interest form which asks for the occasion, the date, and start and end times including set-up and pack-down: 'Please include any setup time. I.e. the time you require access to the site' and 'Please include any pack-down time.' The 2-4 hour band is therefore inclusive of bump-in and bump-out, which matters when comparing it to the full-day rate.
The garden acknowledges the arrernte people as traditional owners of the land, in its own footer: 'The Olive Pink Botanic Garden acknowledges the Arrernte people as traditional owners of the land we work and grow on.' The hilltop is named Tharrarletneme (Annie Meyers Hill).
