Blatherskite Park is a Northern Territory Government reserve on Len Kittle Drive, run since 1977 by a group of honorary trustees. It is Alice Springs’ largest hire venue, indoor and out, and it is the home ground of the Alice Springs Show and Red CentreNATS — which tells you both what it can hold and what it normally holds.

Setting & Style

Vast open grass against the MacDonnell Ranges, a grandstand seating 400 with a Members’ Bar beneath it, two main pavilions for undercover use, a boardroom and function rooms. There are also stables, agistment, rodeo and dressage arenas and horses grazing on the flat — this is a showground, and a wedding here is a rustic one in the venue’s own word.

Ideal For

Couples who want space and are willing to build the day themselves. The park hires ground and buildings; everything else is yours to bring. Powered sites and camping mean guests can stay on the grounds.

The Need-to-Knows

Read the alcohol rule before anything else. No alcohol may be consumed in the open within two kilometres of a licensed outlet, and the park is inside that zone. A permit must be obtained independently from the Liquor Commission and sighted by the trustees — and the trustees state plainly that they “have no power to approve in any instance or exception”. There are time limits and fines. No capacity and no fee is published for a wedding, and the office is open weekdays only, 8.30am to 3pm.

Standout Feature

Scale, in a town that has very little of it. The Main Oval is one of the largest in the Northern Territory, and the grounds routinely absorb the Alice Springs Show and a national auto festival. If your guest list is bigger than anything else in Central Australia can seat, this is the answer — provided you arrive with a plan and a liquor permit.

The alcohol rule is the most important fact on this site: "No alcohol is to be consumed in the open within 2 kilometres of a licensed outlet. This area includes the park. Permits for sale of alcohol and consumption for specific events must be sought from the Liquor Commission and sighted by the Trustees. There are time restrictions for obtaining this approval and some strict constraints (and fines) if you fail to follow them. Persons responsible must seek this approval independently. The Trustees have no power to approve in any instance or exception"
