Overview & Vibe

Luminosity Film Studios is James Lippmann, a Cairns wedding photographer of more than thirteen years who began by filming weddings and moved into photography when couples started asking for both. He works across Far North Queensland from a base in Cairns, and is joined by Kierrah Lippmann, who photographs weddings and lifestyle work alongside him.

Style & Approach

The studio describes its aim as effortless, timeless and emotive images, and says plainly that nobody likes forced, unnatural photography. The approach is laid back and built around the day being enjoyed rather than directed. He shoots on Leica compacts precisely because they are small and unintrusive, letting him work close without making people self-conscious.

Ideal For

Couples marrying anywhere around Cairns, Port Douglas, Mossman and the Atherton Tablelands, and those planning something smaller. Elopements run to about five hours and micro-weddings cover fewer than twenty guests, both midweek; full-day couples get coverage from preparations through to the dancefloor.

The Need-to-Knows

Six packages are published with prices. A thirty per cent retainer is payable on booking and is non-refundable, with the balance due a week before the wedding. Most couples book twelve to eighteen months ahead. No hourly rate is charged, and a full wedding day is deliberately kept to around ten or eleven hours. There are no midweek discounts.

Standout Feature

Albums are made in partnership with Atkins Lab in Sydney, hand bound using Italian book binding machines. A thirty page spread starts at $2,000 and a twenty page spread, suited to micro-weddings and elopements, at $1,700. The largest package includes a thirty spread fine art album together with a print and USB delivery box.
