About

Overview & Vibe

A sporting and entertainment club in South Mackay, established 1891, whose purpose-built function centre is the most formal wedding room in the city. The club sits alongside the Great Barrier Reef Arena and calls itself “Mackay’s leading leisure destination”; it took the Clubs QLD and Keno Award for Excellence for Best Dining Central QLD in 2020.

Setting & Style

Weddings go in The Lancaster Room — crystal chandeliers set against backlit ceiling features, opulent decorative walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and a swirling monogrammed carpet. It is fully adaptable: portable dance floor, portable bar, staging, and the option to split into Lancaster A and B. An expansive timber deck with umbrellas, overlooking the arena, is available as an add-on hire and gives the room an outdoor pre-function space. The wider centre adds the Reef Room (up to 60), the Hamilton Room with its mirrored bar and deck over the ovals, the ten-seat Snow Johnson Board Room, and an outdoor Garden Bar and Deck.

Ideal For

Couples who want a chandeliered ballroom rather than a shed or a lawn, in Mackay itself, with a whole club’s facilities — bistro, bars, gaming, kids’ playzone — wrapped around the guests.

The Need-to-Knows

  • The wedding compendium is emailed on request. No per-head rate, room hire fee or minimum spend is published.
  • The Lancaster Room’s guest number is the one figure the site does not give. It publishes capacities for the Reef Room (60), the Board Room (10) and the Garden Bar (50–100) — but not for the wedding room. Ask for it in the same email as the pricing.
  • Hire the deck deliberately. The timber deck overlooking the Great Barrier Reef Arena is described as “an add-on hire for your event”, not as part of the room.
  • The whole venue comes with the room“The Lancaster Rooms gives you full use of the Harrup Park venue facilities for your guests”. That includes the bistro, the Sports and Garden bars, the café, gaming and a kids’ playzone.
  • Access is good and stated: all function rooms are fully air-conditioned with complete wheelchair access and toilets immediately outside the room. The club also publishes a virtual tour and an access-and-inclusion page.
  • It is an active sporting venue. The arena hosts cricket including an NRMA Insurance Mackay Test, AFLW and State of Origin screenings. Check your date against the fixtures.

Standout Feature

Crystal chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows in a purpose-built room, with a timber deck looking straight out over an international cricket ground.

Price Notes

  • Pricing is provided on enquiry. There is a wedding compendium, emailed on request. The Lancaster Rooms give you full use of the Harrup Park facilities for your guests.
  • Capacities are published for some rooms but not for the wedding room. The Reef Room hosts up to 60 guests, the Snow Johnson Board Room seats ten, and the Garden takes a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 100 on a Friday or Saturday. No figure is given for the Lancaster Room, which is the wedding room, or for the Hamilton Room — ask for both.
  • The deck is an extra rather than an inclusion: "The Lancaster Room now features an expansive timber deck with umbrellas overlooking the impressive Great Barrier Reef Arena as an add-on hire for your event."
  • The garden bar has its own terms: a sectioned-off area for a minimum of 50 and a maximum of 100 guests on a Friday or Saturday, or exclusive use Monday to Thursday for a service fee. Every garden bar booking carries a pre-paid minimum spend on food and drink — ask for the amount, which is not published.
  • Awards the club publishes itself: 'Recipient of the Award for Excellence for Best Dining Central QLD 2020 by Keno and Clubs QLD, Harrup Park has set the new benchmark for quality at great value in Mackay.' The club logo carries 'SINCE 1891'.
  • Curabitur arcu erat, accumsan id imperdiet et, porttitor at sem...'. Recorded so that a later sweep does not read it as content, and as a caution that a page returning 200 with a normal byte count can still be empty of meaning.
  • Staff and contact routes are named: 'Questions about holding a Function at Harrup Park? Ask for our Functions Coordinator Kath or our Functions Manager Aleks or send an email to them with any questions you may have.' General enquiries go to admin@harruppark.com.au, and 'We have Staff available to answer your calls from 9am - 9pm each day.' The booking form asks for booking type (cocktail or sit down), menu selection (platters / alternate drop / buffet / canapes), expected guest numbers, date and timings - which is the closest the site comes to describing its catering formats.
  • The venue is an active sporting ground and its own calendar competes for dates. The navigation lists an NRMA Insurance Mackay Test, Mackay Cricket Fixtures, State of Origin 2026, AFLW, Melbourne Cup at Harrup Park, trivia nights and a Stage 2 future development page. Worth checking a wedding date against the fixture list.
