Wedding Photographers · Toowoomba / Darling Downs, Queensland
Dan Vonhoff has photographed weddings since 2011 and has more than four hundred of them behind him, all from a base in Toowoomba. He offers one thing and offers it plainly: a full day, photographed properly, with a film alongside it if you want one. His own line about the work is that in a world of fast images he wants to capture something deeper — love, connection, emotion and subtlety.
He says he finds his style hard to define, because every situation calls for a different approach: sometimes he lets things unfold naturally and stays out of the way, sometimes he is directing people and cracking jokes to get a reaction. Most of the day, in his words, is pure documentary. His editing is deliberately conservative — he enhances what was captured and avoids trends, because he wants the pictures to still look right in twenty years.
Couples who want the whole day covered by one experienced pair of hands rather than a crew. He notes that he can comfortably cover a wedding alone and that fewer cameras at a wedding makes everyone easier in front of them — a second photographer is arranged only when the day is large or the logistics are awkward.
Full-day photography starts at $4,200, and photo and film can be booked together or photography on its own. Full day means arriving a few hours before the ceremony and staying well past the first dance, through the dance floor and the sparkler exit. Photographs arrive within eight weeks and films within twelve. Couples typically book about twelve months ahead. Most of his weddings are in South East Queensland; he travels interstate regularly and quotes a travel cost when asked.
He has removed the hour-package question from the conversation entirely. Rather than sell six or eight hours he sells the day, and says he leaves when he has enough dance floor photographs — which means nobody is watching a clock during the speeches.
