Wedding Photographers · Adelaide, South Australia
Dan Evans is an Adelaide wedding photographer — originally from the New Forest in the south of England, and for the past fifteen years calling Adelaide home. He is refreshingly unwilling to sell himself: this is probably the bit where I should deliver a grand poetic argument as to why you should pick me over every other wedding photographer out there. Unfortunately self proclamation isn’t really my style. What he offers instead is the plainest possible summary — I simply enjoy taking photos and meeting new people — and a single line about the work itself that is worth more than a page of adjectives: wedding photography, he says, is akin to bottling lightning to present back to you both in pixels and in print.
Documentary, and unhurried. His published coverage runs the whole day in sequence — groomsmen barefoot on a sofa reading their vows, a shirt on a hanger, the bride’s dress being fastened, bridesmaids walking a paddock — almost none of it posed. He works in natural light and lets the day set its own pace. His work has been featured in Vogue, Hello May, Polka Dot Bride, Junebug Weddings and Looks Like Film.
Couples who want the whole day covered without being directed through it, and who would rather their photographer were good company than a performer. He also takes on a limited number of Australian destination and overseas weddings each year, and is unusually candid about the economics: he calls it a privilege rather than a chance to charge more, and says he calculates destination rates so they work out cost-effectively for everyone involved.
He has photographed weddings across Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Italy, Greece, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Tonga, Bali, Thailand, England, Switzerland and Germany — and still describes taking on a limited number of them each year as a privilege rather than an opportunity.
