Ramsay Taplin is an Adelaide photographer who came to the work sideways: he sold a small internet company in 2018 after a decade behind a laptop, and decided it was time to be back outside with people and nature. That history shows in how he works — unhurried, curious, and genuinely pleased to be there. He photographs weddings and elopements across South Australia, and is refreshingly plain about what he charges and what you get.

Style & Approach

Documentary, and he means it. In his own words he keeps things informal and is not a fan of inserting myself into the events more than is necessary — the day is about you and your loved ones, and his job is to capture it as naturally as possible. He does not believe there is one right way to make a picture, and says the best shots are usually the candid moments you get simply by enjoying the time spent with someone. He loves natural light and would rather be outside in the late afternoon.

Couples who want a photographer present for the whole day without becoming part of it, and who would rather laugh through the chaos than be directed through it. He is an especially good fit for eloping couples: he makes the case for it warmly, describing getting married beside a cottage, in a forest, or on a seaside clifftop, with just the two of you, the celebrant and one witness. He also welcomes a coffee before anything is booked, because he thinks getting along matters on a day this intimate.
