Overview & Vibe

Bungaree Station is a working pastoral property twelve kilometres north of Clare that has been in the same family since Christmas Day 1841. At its height it ran 100,000 merino sheep and housed more than fifty staff and their families — which is why it is not a homestead with a lawn but a village, with its own church, store, school, district council chambers, blacksmith shop, woolshed, shearers' quarters and manager's house. Almost all of it still stands, heritage-listed, and a wedding here uses several buildings at once.

Setting & Style

The ceremony has two quite different homes. A stone church at the entrance to the property handles traditional ceremonies; the Homestead Gardens, which the station says “reflect the seasons”, handle informal ones. Guests then take post-ceremony drinks in the Homestead Alfresco area while the couple work the property's photo locations — historic buildings, formal gardens and open country. The reception runs in either the Shearers' Quarters or the iconic Woolshed, the stone shed where an 1878 visitor counted 54 shearers on the boards.

Ideal For

Couples who want a whole weekend on a property they have to themselves, and who would rather choose their own suppliers than accept a package. Bungaree is unusually open about this: you can style the venue yourself, pick your own caterer, and either take the station's range of local wines and beers or bring your own. Guests sleep on site in the heritage cottages — the Stallion Box, Swaggies Hut, Groom's Quarters, the Lodge, Council Chambers, Manager's House and Men's Kitchen — and everyone regroups for breakfast.

The Need-to-Knows

No guest capacity is published and no pricing of any kind appears on the site. The station commits only to “venues to suit smaller and larger events”, so the guest number is the first thing to ask. What it does publish are its sleeping numbers, and those are the real constraint on a full-weekend wedding: bed and breakfast for up to 35 people and camping for up to 25. Catering is not provided in-house — the flexibility that lets you choose a caterer also means you must find one. The site carries no brochure or PDF.

Standout Feature

Complete privacy on a property that is effectively a private village.
