About

Overview & Vibe

A 45-hectare vineyard property in the Sevenhill Ranges with a stone cottage cellar door built around 1920, restored in 1994 when Leigh and Karen Eldredge bought the place and started the winery. It calls itself “the Biggest Little Winery in the Clare Valley” and sits at the base of a tree-studded hill, looking out over a large dam.

Setting & Style

The event space is a large wooden deck enclosed with patio blinds — so it works year-round — opening onto manicured lawns under shady trees. As dusk falls, hundreds of fairy lights light the deck, the surrounding lawns and a huge Gleditsia tree. The lawn takes a marquee for anything larger, and the venue's own photography shows long tables run down the vineyard rows.

Ideal For

Couples who want a working family winery rather than a wedding business — and who like the idea of a deck that works in any weather with a lawn attached for when it doesn't need to.

The Need-to-Knows

  • The deck seats 80–100 or holds 200 standing. Beyond that the reception moves to the lawns, under festoon lighting or a hired marquee.
  • It is strictly no BYO — stated plainly in the wedding guide.
  • Catering is brought in. The winery keeps a list of caterers it works with, or you may appoint your own provided you tell them who.
  • The marquee is a third-party hire through Mid North Party Hire, at extra cost.
  • The published wedding guide is from 2018–19, so its hire fees and beverage rates are seven years old and are not treated as current. Ask for a fresh quote.
  • No accommodation on site.
  • Setup is allowed up to two days before, and a rehearsal is welcome.

Standout Feature

A Gleditsia tree the size of a house, strung with hundreds of fairy lights, over a lawn full of wine barrels.

Price Notes

  • THE WEDDING GUIDE IS SEVEN YEARS OLD AND ITS PRICES ARE NOT RECORDED AS CURRENT (rule 7). Wedding_guide.pdf carries CreationDate 23 March 2018 and ModDate 5 May 2019. FOR THE RECORD ONLY, and to be confirmed on enquiry, it stated: 'Hire fees: Ceremony Only - $300. Reception Only or Ceremony & Reception - $1000. Full payment is required to reserve your date.' And beverage packages 'STANDARD PACKAGE $35.00 per person, Up to 4 hours' / 'PREMIUM PACKAGE $45.00 per person, Up to 4 Hours', both with 'Any hour thereafter - $5.00 per person'. price_per_head is NULL because those rates predate the two-year window by five years.
  • A DATING TRAP WORTH RECORDING: the PDF's HTTP Last-Modified header reads TODAY'S DATE, because Shopify's CDN regenerates it per request. The Shopify cache-buster in the URL (?v=1742173615) decodes to 17 March 2025, which is when the file was UPLOADED, not when it was written. Only the embedded /CreationDate and /ModDate give the real age. On a Shopify domain, ignore Last-Modified entirely.
  • IT IS STRICTLY NO BYO, stated without qualification: 'Beverage packages are available, please see attached. Please note we are a strictly no BYO venue.' That is the opposite end of the axis from Watervale Hotel in this same region.
  • CATERING IS BROUGHT IN, WITH A CHOICE: 'We have a few different catering companies that we deal with on a regular basis and can organize someone for you depending on the type of cuisine you would like and the style, eg. Sit down, buffet, cocktail, etc... You are also welcome to organize your own caterer if you wish, however please advise us of who the caterer is, along with their contact details.' No caterer is named and no menu is published, so dietary_options_supported is NULL as not-published (§73).
  • THE MARQUEE IS A THIRD-PARTY COST: 'a Marquee can be hired from Mid North Party Hire. This will incur extra costs due to hire fees, if you would like a quote on a Marquee, please contact us.'
  • ACCESS TERMS ARE GENEROUS AND STATED: 'Setup can be done up to two days prior, and we are more than happy for you to run a rehearsal with your celebrant or show your photographer around beforehand.'
  • THREE BAR MODELS ARE OFFERED BEYOND THE PACKAGES: 'Full Open Bar - You and your guests are able to obtain any drinks from the bar during your function. Payment will be on a consumption basis. Limited Open Bar - You choose... a limited range of our products... Cash Bar - You may choose for your guests to purchase their own drinks during your function. Bar Tabs may be set up.'
  • THE PROPERTY AND ITS HISTORY ARE PUBLISHED: 'Eldredge Wines operates their Cellar Door on a 45 hectare property. With approximately 23 hectares of vineyard, the Cellar Door is situated at the front of the property overlooking a large dam... The stone cottage Cellar Door, was originally constructed around 1920, and fully renovated in 1994 when Leigh and Karen Eldredge purchased the property with the intention of starting their own winery.' The cellar door opened October 1994 and the winery marked 30 years in 2024. Rule 8 checked: a single family-owned property on its own domain.
  • THE CONTACT DETAILS COME FROM THE 2018 GUIDE and are the only ones published for events: 'Skye Eldredge - Cellar Door & Events Manager. Email: bluechip@eldredge.com.au. Phone: (08) 88423086 or 0433412240.' The current website carries no phone number at all - only a contact form - so these should be confirmed before use. The cellar door address and hours are in the header of every page: '659 Spring Gully Road, Clare, South Australia - Open 7 Days 11am-5pm'.
  • NO ACCOMMODATION IS OFFERED - nothing on the domain mentions any, and there is no accommodation route.
  • THE VENUE RUNS ITS OWN EVENTS that could clash with a wedding date: a Long Lunch and the 'Burning of the Barrels', both promoted on the events page via third-party listings. Worth checking a date against the winery's own calendar.
  • NO STRUCTURED PRICING DATA for weddings - the ld+json on the domain is Shopify product markup for wine.
