Hawley House
About
Overview & Vibe
Hawley House is an 1878 Victorian manor at Hawley Beach, half an hour from Devonport, the original homestead of the Houghton family's Rubicon Estate. It has its own small church, gardens running down to waterlily pools, and a white sand beach at the end of the lawn — a whole-property venue where the ceremony, the reception and the beds are all in one place.
Setting & Style
Ceremonies are held either in the gardens or down a red carpet into All Creatures Church (c.1878), a quaint timber chapel on the property. Receptions take one of two forms: a candlelit dinner in the dining room for up to 30 with exclusive use of the house, or the Conservatory — a sandstone-paved courtyard under gathered silk draping and a wrought iron chandelier, ringed by rose arches and windows over the northern waterlily pools, seating up to 150.
Ideal For
Couples who want the whole weekend in one place, with guests staying on site and no travel between ceremony and reception — and who like the idea of a private chapel.
The Need-to-Knows
- The ceremony is included. The venue states that all wedding packages now include the on-site ceremony at no extra charge, in the gardens or the church.
- On-site accommodation is included in all packages. The weddings page says up to 35 guests can stay; the home page describes exclusive use of the accommodation for up to 40. Both figures are the venue's own — confirm which applies.
- The two receptions work differently. Intimate weddings up to 30 are an all-inclusive, fully catered package in the dining room with exclusive use of the property. Conservatory weddings up to 150 let you bring your own licensed caterer, with venue hire covering use of the catering kitchen.
- No BYO alcohol. It is a fully licensed venue; drinks packages are tailored rather than fixed.
- No pricing is published — no per-head rate, package price, hire fee or minimum spend appears anywhere on the site.
- Some rooms are pet friendly, and an accessible ground-floor stable room has support railings and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom.
Standout Feature
A private 1878 church on the lawn, and a silk-draped conservatory over waterlily pools, on a beachfront estate where the whole wedding party can stay.

Price Notes
- NOTE: Hawley House publishes no pricing of any kind on its own website - no per-head rate, no package price, no venue hire fee and no minimum spend - and there is no wedding brochure or PDF anywhere on the domain. Enquiry is by form, by phone on (03) 6428 6221 or by email to reservations@hawleyhouse.com.au.
- What the venue does state about package structure: 'All our wedding packages now include your ceremony onsite for no extra charge, either in the spectacular gardens or walk down the red carpet for an intimate candlelit ceremony in the quaint All Creatures Church (c.1878).' And: 'Onsite accommodation is included in all packages for your bridal party and friends to make a weekend of it.'
- The two reception options are costed differently. The Intimate Weddings option, up to 30 guests, is described as an all-inclusive package including exclusive use of the property and a fully catered candlelit dining room reception. The Conservatory option, up to 150, instead 'features the flexibility to arrange the licensed caterer of your choice - venue hire fees include use of our catering kitchen for food service', so catering is contracted separately by the couple.
- Alcohol: 'Alcohol inclusive packages are tailored to your personal requirements.' The venue states plainly, 'Note this is a fully licensed venue and there is no BYO alcohol option available.'
- CONTRADICTION IN THE VENUE'S OWN FIGURES, recorded rather than resolved: the weddings page says 'up to 35 guests able to stay on-site', while the home page says 'Enjoy exclusive use of our accommodation for up to 40 guests'. Both are the venue's own statements on its own site. The listing does not pick between them.
