Overview & Vibe

A family estate at Rocky Cape on Tasmania’s north-west coast, at the foothills of Rocky Cape National Park, looking across Bass Strait to The Nut at Stanley. It is new and openly a work in progress — the vines went in in 2022, the on-site cheesery started in 2025, and the first estate wines are still a few years off. What exists now is a café and a purpose-built function room with one of the better views in the state.

Setting & Style

The function space is modern rather than rustic: high ceilings, elegant décor and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the vineyard on one side and the ocean on the other, opening onto outdoor areas for cocktail hour and sunset. Both ceremony and reception happen on site, indoors or out. The land has been the family’s since 1996, when John and Sharleen bought it and built a dairy farm; this end of the property was always kept back for something else.

Ideal For

Couples who want a coastal Tasmanian wedding at up to 120 guests in a bright modern room, with the catering handled in-house and the National Park across the road.

The Need-to-Knows

The venue works to custom menus: “Custom menus can be arranged for weddings and private functions.”
120 guests, indoor and outdoor. The FAQ answers it directly: “Our function venue can accommodate up to 120 guests, with both indoor and outdoor areas available.”
Catering is in-house and there is no BYO. “As we are a licensed venue, we do not allow BYO. We offer a selection of estate-grown wines and local Tasmanian beverages.” That is the opposite arrangement to most farm venues in this region.
The café trades Wednesday to Sunday, with a 10% Sunday surcharge. Worth asking whether it applies to a function, and whether a Monday or Tuesday wedding is possible at all.
Accessibility is good and stated — wheelchair accessible café and function areas, ample free parking, and the venue publishes an ATIC accessibility guide. It is Quality Tourism and Sustainable Tourism accredited.
Service animals only — “we kindly ask that other pets remain at home.”
Wine tastings and cheese tastings are advertised as ‘coming soon’, not as current offerings. Do not build a guest itinerary around them without checking.

Price Notes

Pricing is provided on enquiry. Catering is quoted per wedding, using fresh Tasmanian ingredients, and custom menus can be arranged for weddings and private functions.
As we are a licensed venue, we do not allow BYO. So there is no separate caterer line in a couple's budget, and no corkage.
A 10% sunday surcharge is published, alongside limited trading days: 'What are your opening hours? Opening Hours: Wednesday - Sunday (Check our social media for the latest updates.) 10% Surcharge on Sundays.' The surcharge is stated for the cafe; whether it applies to a wedding is not addressed, and a Monday or Tuesday date is not obviously available at all. Both worth asking.
On-site cheesery (production beginning mid-2025).' A couple planning wine tastings or a cheese experience for guests should confirm availability rather than assume.
Accessibility is stated and accredited: "Is Lanigan's Vineyard wheelchair accessible? Yes, our venue is wheelchair accessible, including our cafe and function areas." There is ample free parking on site, and the venue holds ATIC accessibility accreditation.

The family history is published and dates the property: 'Lanigan's Vineyard is a family-owned and operated estate... It's the vision of TJ, Bree, and Bree's parents, John and Sharleen... John and Sharleen had purchased the Rocky Cape property in 1996 and built a thriving dairy farm, now owned by their son and daughter-in-law. But the other end of the property, with its privacy and breathtaking views, always held potential for something more. The first step was establishing Rocky Cape Retreat - boutique accommodation to share this hidden pocket with others. After the birth of their daughter Maddie, the family began brainstorming the next chapter. In 2022, they planted their first vineyard rows.'
