Wedding Photographers · Melbourne, Victoria
Jackson Grant is a Melbourne wedding photographer and filmmaker working out of Collingwood, who shot his first wedding in 2014 and has photographed them ever since. He is openly queer, writes about his work with a great deal of humour, and caps himself at twenty-five weddings a year so that each one gets his full attention. His published weddings run from inner-Melbourne bars and warehouses to farms, country halls and overseas cities.
He is unusually direct about method rather than mood. He does not attend the traditional getting-ready stage, preferring what he calls pre-pics, made once everyone is dressed and together. He reckons the finished set is roughly thirty percent the couple and seventy percent the people around them, and he photographs the whole room on that basis. He also asks couples to take a back seat on the day rather than perform for him.
Couples who do not want a conventional wedding gallery, who care as much about their guests being photographed as themselves, and who are happy to be gently steered rather than posed. It suits weddings anywhere in Victoria, and he travels interstate and overseas regularly enough to publish his upcoming travel months in advance.
Photography comes in two lengths: eight hours, which returns roughly 370 or more images, and five hours, which returns around 250. Two film packages are offered, one including Super 8mm and animation and one digital only, both producing a four to six minute highlight film with the full ceremony and speeches recorded. A two thousand dollar deposit secures a date and comes off the final balance, and extra hours within Australia are $440 including GST. No package price is published.
He publishes the months he will be overseas well ahead of time, so couples marrying abroad can see immediately whether he is already going to be nearby.
