Wedding Photographers · Melbourne, Victoria · By appointment
Tess Follett is a Melbourne wedding photographer who came to weddings from photojournalism, having studied photography and then shot for major media publications before turning to love stories. Her work has been featured in Vogue, Hello May and Ivory Tribe. She photographs across Melbourne and Victoria, and travels interstate and overseas.
Emotive and documentary. She works unobtrusively, going after the emotions, the surprises and what she calls the in-between moments that no one else sees. Her editing is deliberately restrained: she does not whiten teeth, retouch skin or slim anybody, because she wants the photographs to look the way the day actually looked.
Couples who want a calm, capable photographer rather than a director — she describes herself as the calm in the chaos and is comfortable handling a crowd. She shoots roughly nine in ten weddings solo, which suits couples who want one quiet presence rather than a team, and she covers everything from a three-hour midweek elopement to a full weekend celebration.
Midweek intimate weddings and elopements start at $3,000 for three hours; full-day Friday and Saturday weddings are $5,200 for six, with a six-hour weekend minimum and ten hours the maximum. Every package brings edited high-resolution files, an online gallery, a slideshow, twenty lustre prints in a white box and a framed portrait by post. Turnaround is six to eight weeks and a $1,000 deposit secures the date. Victoria weddings beyond fifty kilometres from the CBD carry a travel fee.
The albums are a craft in their own right — ten by ten or nine by twelve inch fine art books, flat-bound so a centre spread runs unbroken, with over fifty cover materials in leather, velvet and linen and debossing from a blind finish to gold leaf. You choose the hundred images and work through drafts with her. Ask about the parent duplicate at the same time.
