Hungry Workshop is a letterpress studio in Brunswick East that prints on its own antique presses. Wedding invitations are one line of a wider print business, and they are designed rather than picked from a catalogue: the studio starts with a conversation about the celebration and draws from there. If you already have artwork, from your own hand or a designer’s, they will print that instead.

Style & Printing

Letterpress is the house craft and the reason to come here. A raised surface is inked and pressed deep into the paper, so the type is sculptural and catches the light rather than sitting flat on it. Alongside it the studio foil stamps, embosses, debosses and die cuts, and it distinguishes debossing from embossing rather than using the words loosely. Heavy coloured cotton stocks are the usual ground, and the work runs from fine hand lettering to illustrated maps and drawn florals.

Worth knowing before you enquire: this studio makes the invitation and its envelope. It does not offer save the dates, menus, place cards, seating charts or orders of service, so a full suite would need a second supplier.

The Need-to-Knows

Every job is quoted individually, so there is no price list; the enquiry form asks for your quantity, size and finishes. Printing takes ten to fifteen business days once the digital plate proof is approved and a 50% deposit is paid. Samples are posted out on request, and the studio is open by appointment.
